Report for weekend of 7/8 October 2006

Body

For aficionados of juvenile hurling Silverpark was the place to be on Saturday 7 October 2006.  A three championship semi-final programme saw Crokes successful in two and losing out in the third.

First into action were the under 16B’s in the E championship who battled gamely before going down 3-10 to 1-4 to Naomh Barrog.  The end score fails to tell the full tale with only six points between the sides with nine minutes remaining. Read more HERE.

This game was followed by the under 14B’s good victory over Scoil Ui Chonnaill (3-7 to 0-7, having led, with a strong wind 2-4 to 0-2 at half time) in the C championship on pitch 2 and the very well attended under 16A semi-final against Cuala on pitch 1.  This was a thriller with Crokes trailing for most of the game and needing final minutes scores from Barra O’Liadhan (point) and Eoin McArthur (goal) to take them through to the final, 1-14 to 2-7.  Free taken Kevin O’Loughlin was in outstanding form. Read more HERE

While this drama was being played out our under 11’s were winning the Shield at the Ballygallget Tournament in County Down with a victory over O’Donovan Rossa in the final.

On Sunday the under 15A’s in Silverpark comprehensively beat Erins Isle in the Top 4 series of the League.  At the same venue later in the day the under 14A’s beat Lucan Sarsfields 4-9 to 5-4 in a League game played in wet conditions.  In preparation for their forthcoming championship semi final the minor A’s travelled to Thurles where they were beaten by the local Sarsfields, powered by four recent minor All-Ireland winners.  Best for Crokes were Rory O’Carroll, Fergus Monnelly, William McEvoy and Kevin Dalton

Nursery hurling (under 6, 7 and 8) continues every Saturday morning in Glenalbyn at 11.15 am.  Contact Liam Coughlan 086-6063232 or lccoughlan@eircom.net
