Great comeback earns place in Cumann na mBunscol Final

A much anticipated encounter awaited between Scoil San Treasa (SST) and their opponents St. Brigids, Killester. The players got ready and did a short warm-up before the positions were to be announced. The tension was in the air – a crucial game lay ahead for both teams. The match started at three o’clock with SST playing with wind advantage. SST got the first score, but following that, St Brigid’s responded with a score of their own. Then we got our first free but was very narrowly missed. The first half was very competitive with both teams not showing any sides of weakness. The score at half time was 5 points to 3. Killester had the wind advantage in the second half, but SST had the momentum and spirit, as we were leading against our opponents. SST commenced the second half by scoring 2 points and things were looking up for SST. Maybe we were heading to Croke Park? Excitement began to set in.

While much controlled hurling was played by SST, the wind was proving significant. St Brigids got three points and the game’s first goal – these were unanswered by SST. With ten minutes to go SST were down by four points and it looked like the good run had ended. All that hard work and training was all to go to waste. Or was it?

Then with five minutes to go SST gave their final effort and got their first goal. SST were still down but the momentum and the fighting spirit was driving them forward. Then with three minutes on the clock SST grabbed another goal. The game had turned in our favour. Then the insurance score … we scored another goal to clench the victory. The ref blew the whistle and we had won – the scoreline being : 3-6 to 1-8. SST were on their way to Croke Park again, much to the despair of a sporting and skilful St. Brigids team. We had secured victory against the odds and were now looking forward to another successful day out. It will be the first time in Scoil San Treasa’s history that the senior team boys will compete for the division 2 cup and will hopefully be promoted to division 1.

The Cuman na mBunscol Corn Marino Division 2 final is in Croke Park on Monday 29 April at 2pm
