Championship Quarter Final victory in atrocious weather conditions

Crokes had beaten Ballinteer St. John's last week in O'Toole Park to top the group and qualify for this quarter final encounter with Craobh Chiarain (for more on that match click HERE) . Although it was hard to imagine that conditions could be worse for this match than they were in O'Toole Park last week, we were to be disappointed! At least the Donneycarney venue has the benefit of covered stands for the spectators!

Although the rain seemed as if it might hold off as Kilmacud Crokes and Cr. Chiarain took to the pitch, conditions soon deteriorated, to such an extent that it was sometimes difficult to see the length of the pitch.

Both teams traded early points, before Crokes stepped up a gear, racking up another 2-06, with two goals and three points by Oisín O Rorke and points by Caolan Conway, Fergal Whitely, Ross O Carroll and Ryan O Dwyer. During the same period Craobh managed a single over. However, as the half time whistle beckoned, Crokes conceded a goal and two points, ending the half 2-08 to 1-04 ahead.

Shortly after the break Craobh were first to raise the white flag. However, that proved to be their penulatimate score of the match. As the half wore on the weather became more and more monsoon-like. Crokes did manage to rack up another goal (courtesy of Sean McGrath) and three points, running out winners in the end by 11 points.

Playing conditions were very far from ideal and this probably contributed to a very low scoring second half - and the fact that both teams ended the match with 14 men.
