Readers below a certain age will have been hearing a lot recently about how they've never had to live through hard times as the Celtic Tiger era allegedly enabled the rising tide to lift all our boats.  Well, for the past 23 years the senior hurlers of Kilmacud Crokes have had to endure hard times that failed to abate, even with the birth of the recently deceased leonine phenomenon.  Now however there is the prospect that this barren period can be ended, that (to borrow somewhat from the famous speech of one R Stakelum) the famine might nearly be over.  But ( and there is always a but ) if this year is to represent the turning point that it can be, every man, woman and child must do his or her level best to get to Parnell Park on Saturday - YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU !!!

Saturday 1 Novmeber (at 3.15pm) our senior hurlers take to the field in what is arguably our most important game of the last 15 years.  We face near rivals and reigning champions Ballyboden in our bid to be top dogs in Dublin for the first time since 1985 (remember that year?  Live Aid and all that?).  This really is a massive game and we must do all that we can to maximise our chances of success.  Crowd support is a vital ingredient.  We need as many people as possible at the game, wearing their Crokes jerseys and waving their Crokes flags.  Our last county final appearance was way back in 1996 which goes to show that when we do get to the final we really should make the most of it.

Younger children in particular will be familiar with some of the senior players as they have been coaching and helping out with various teams during the year.  By virtue of the fact that you and/or your children are involved with a Crokes hurling team you and they are part of the large family that is the Crokes Hurling Section.  Why not make arrangements to go to the game with another family/ families from your child's team.

Buses

As regular visitors to Parnell Park will know, parking in the vicinity is very difficult so Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Club is organising buses to Parnell Park, leaving Glenalbyn at 1.30pm. Please contact Declan Herlihy on 087 9897175 or at declanherlihy@eircom.net ASAP to book your bus seat. Cost is only €3 each. If you can't make the game and plan to let your child go on the bus, you must ensure you've arranged for another parent to look after your child.

Finally, to maximise the social aspect of the day please consider adjourning to Kilmac's bar in the clubhouse after you return from the game.  The post mortem can be performed there in friendly surroundings with a glass of your favourite beverage in hand.
