 Seniors beat Cuala in Hyde Park

dog070410_Seniors_v_Cuala11.jpg The seniors travelled to Hyde Park and came under an onslaught from the wind assisted homesters to such an extent that by the eight minute they trailed five points to one.  Two good points from centre forward Fergus Garvey brought Crokes back into the game.  Cuala then raised another white flag before points from Ross O’Carroll and Shane O’Rorke narrowed the gap.  Four more Cuala minors to another from O’Rorke, his third of the half left it 0-10 to 0-6 at half time.

Within three minutes of the resumption Cuala tapped over two more scores before Eoin Roche got into free converting mode which saw him send four over to a solitary reply from Cuala over the next seven minutes.  In the forty fourth minute Alan Tiernan pointed to start an unanswered Crokes scoring sequence.  This saw Ross O’Carroll cleverly flick to the net, Daibhi de Paor point a sixty five metre free, Tiernan send over again, Fergus Garvey get his third point and Ross O’Carroll complete the Crokes scoring with a fine point.  With time almost up Declan Browne was harshly penalised for over carrying.  Dissension saw the ball moved in and a Cuala goal was the outcome.  Shortly afterwards the Dalkey men pointed to leave the game 1-15 to Crokes as opposed to Cuala’s 1-14 at the final whistle.  Impressive performers for Crokes on the night included full back Dave Mahoney, corner men Adrian Grogan and Kieran Murphy, centre back Declan Browne, Daibhi de Paor in midfield and the young forward trio of Garvey, O’Rorke and O’Carroll.
