Summary for week ending 8 July 2006

Body

A damp Saturday evening (8th July 2006) saw Crokes record an easy 3-18 to 0-11 win over a depleted Faughs in the Boland Cup in Silverpark.

The teams lined out 13 a side and after Brian Motherway’s tenth minute goal the issue was never in serious doubt although Crokes took time to impose themselves on the game and never really displayed the fluidity that might have been expected.

Team:

Macdara O’hOgain, Adrian Grogan, Damien Byrne, Fionan Moriarty, Declan Walsh, Ross O’Carroll, Hugh Gannon, Shane O’Rorke (0-1), Tomas Donohoe (0-1), James Burke (0-4), Niall Murphy (0-1), Brian Motherway (2-0), Damien Walsh (0-3).  Paul Graham (0-4) for Damien Walsh, Donal McGovern (1-2) for Niall Murphy, Michael Dalton (0-2) for Brian Motherway, Fergus Garvey for Ross O’Carroll

The senior win made up somewhat for a disappointing 0-19 to 0-10 league loss to Ballyboden at the same venue the previous Tuesday and narrow defeats for the intermediates and Junior B’s to Kevins and Naomh Mearnog in their respective leagues the same week which also saw the Junior C3’s go down to O’Dwyers (championship).

Highlight of the week was the continuing participation of our underage teams in the Laois Development blitzes.  We had the under 10’s, 11’s and 12’s on the road for the second time in a fortnight to Portlaoise, Clonad and Rathdowney respectively.  All teams gave good accounts of themselves against quality opposition and on this occasion they were joined by the under 13 squad who had a successful foray to Mountmellick.  Exposing our young players to country opposition continues to pay dividends

Under 12 Squad:

Barry Horan, Hugh Gowing, Conor Sweeny, Peter Fay, Andrew Colclough, Kevin James McGowan, Conor O’Dwyer, Eoin Ryall, Cormac Spain, Conor Devins, Mark Mannion, Neil Gorey, Tomas Barry, Conor Britchfield, Robert Murphy, Mark Collins and Oisin O’Rorke.

Nursery hurling (under 6, 7, 8 and 9) continues from now to the end of July every Saturday morning in Glenalbyn at 10.00 am.  Contact Liam Coughlan 086-6063232 or lccoughlan@eircom.net
