Weekend 21-22 October 2006

Sunday juvenile activity dominated the weekend with our under 9 tournament for the John McCallion trophy at Glenalbyn the high point.  Crokes fielded two teams in the ten team competition with one of our teams battling their way to the final before going under to Naomh Eanna from Gorey who entered just one team.  Great weather for the time of year helped the tournament run like clockwork and make a big impression on our visitors from Gorey, Dicksboro (2 teams), Emeralds of Urlingford, Naas (2 teams), Na Fianna (2 teams).  Many congratulations to all involved. Not far behind on the good news front was the success of the Minor B’s in a playoff for a championship semi-final spot over Peregreines by 0-14 to 0-10.  Kevin Daltion at midfield turned in a man of the match performance ably supported by new goalkeeper, Keith Hogarty, the returning Brian Sheehan, Niall Mulligan, Niall Gallagher and Barra O’Leidhin.  This victory means that seven of our teams from under 14 to under 18 advanced at least to the semi final stage in their championships.

Team:

Keith Hogarty, Shane McNicholas, Gary McMorrow, Niall McIntyre, Alan McPhilips, Paddy Igoe, Niall Mulligan, Kevin Dalton, Karl Dias, Barra O’Leidhin, Niall Gallagher, Eoin McGowan, Brina Sheehan, Brian Hanamy, Ken Noctor.  Subs: Chris Cunningham for Ken Noctor, Brian Mahon for Niall McIntyre, Timmy Ryan for Eoin McGowan, Fiachra O’Shaughnessy and Will Byrne.

At under 11 level we hosted Dicksboro from Kilkenny at Deerpark where after a competitive game Crokes were five points adrift of the visitors.  Our under 12’s had a successful foray to South Kilkenny where they defeated De la Salle of Waterford in the Carrigeen all-weather league and now face St Mary’s of Clonmel next Sunday.  This ten a side tournament is proving a real winner and our travelling squad consisted of:

Neil Gorey, Matthew Geraghty, Daibhid Corish, Conor Sweeny, James Murphy, Conor O’Byrne, Conor Devins, Oisin O’Rorke, Conor O’Dwyer, Caolan Conway, Kevin James McGowan, Maitiu McNicholas and Thomas Campion (Captain).

In the under 13A league Crokes had a good 2-14 to 2-7 win over away to Ballinteer while the under 14A’s went down to Cuala.

Looking ahead, our under 21’s play Round Towers in the championship under lights in Belfield at 8.00pm on Wednesday.  On Sunday 29th October our seniors, intermediates and junior B’s are scheduled for league action against Naomh Mearnog (Portmarnock), Setanta (Poppintree) and Erins Isle (Silverpark) at 1.00pm, 2.30pm and 2.30pm respectively.

Nursery hurling (under 6, 7 and 8) continues every Saturday morning in Glenalbyn at 11.15 am.  Contact Liam Coughlan 086-6063232 or lccoughlan@eircom.net
