Two In A Row For Minor A's

Body

The Minor A team played their second round robin championship match on Sunday 26th September 2010 against Erin’s Isle at Silverpark. On a beautiful morning for hurling Crokes made one change from the last day with Conor Devins replacing Emmet Doherty who broke his wrist in training. Having beaten Isles in the leagues Crokes knew that Isles would be looking for revenge.

The match was very competitive from the off.  Isles were first to score with two minors.  Crokes were under a lot of pressure and had to defend in numbers with Gary Melican and Louis Whelan to the fore.  Crokes started coming more into the game and Ken Kelly opened our account with a free followed by minors from Tom Clarke, Jonathan Hayes and Alex Pilkington. Isles hit back to level it at 4 points apiece after 20 minutes but Crokes scored 4 unanswered points including a beautiful long range point from Enda Grogan to leave it Crokes 0-8 Erins Isle 0-4 at half time.

Crokes were sent out for the second half expecting an onslaught from Isles however within a minute Tom Clarke fed Alex Pilkington for a goal to put daylight between us. Isles now threw everything at Crokes but our full back line was up to the challenge and limited Isles to 2 points in the next 10 minutes. Then the siege was lifted with Alex scoring his second goal which was followed up by points from Jude Sweeney and Dillon Mulligan and Tom Clarke. Again Isles came at us and forced a penalty which they converted and then threw over two more minors. Crokes had the last score with a fine point from substitute Oisin O’Rourke. Final Score Crokes 2-14 Vincent’s 1-8.

The team are looking forward to their last round robin match on the 10th of October against Na Fianna.
