Three Out of Three

Another busy hurling Saturday on 15th October 2005 for the under 11’s with three games.  First off it was down to Bray for a league game against the home side.  Bray started well and dominated the early stages.  Gradually our boys got on top and led 3-5 to 1-0 at half time having played with the wind.  In the second half Crokes continued their dominance and ran out 8-8 to 2-4 winners.

Next it was back to Deerpark for two games against St Vincent’s.  Both turned out to be mis-matches with Crokes winning by 10-6 to 0-0 and 11-4 to 0-0 respectively.

Throughout the three games there were some exceptional Crokes performances.  In Deerpark Jim Fuller had one of his best games ever.  Adam O’Brien impressed at both venues ending with a total of 3 goals.  Maitu Geraghty matched him on the goal count and added four points over two games.  Eoin Ryall continued the promise he has shown all Summer and was unlucky not to score the point of the year when he fielded a great ball and under pressure was just wide from a distance.

Both out field and in goals Barry Horan was in top form as was Caolan Conway in the same roles.  Conor Devins was his usual athletic self ably assisted by Ross McGowan in Deerpark.  Mark Collins continues to improve while both Conor O’Dwyers made telling contributions with the forward of the two getting some great scores against Bray.  In the same game Luke Hyland’s first time moving of the ball at centre forward was a joy to behold.  Thomas Campion was a tidy corner back while Louis O’Sullivan grew in confidence at half back as the day went on.

Conor O’Byrne hit some great placed balls against Bray and finally got his reward with a goal against St Vincent’s.  As ever Daibhid Corish was solid in the full back line and equally dependable was Kevin James McGowan.  Maitiu McNicholas played centerfield against Bray and moved nearer the goal against St Vincent’s, getting his name on the score sheet.  Keith Byrne showed what a good striker of the ball he is while Cormac Spain posed huge problems for the Bray defence.  Against Vincent’s Conal McCluskey got in some great work with his tackling improving all the time

Once again Cian MacGabhann excelled in goal and also played well outfield.  Dave Kane was superb in the half back line.  Dylan Paisley never tired while Michael O’Dwyer mopped up a lot of ball.  Daragh O’Gallachoir showed great skill and Ciaran McIntyre (who got one exceptional point) also made a telling contribution.

Oisin O’Rorke dominated at centre back against Vincent’s and was well complimented by Cian Gormley at centre forward while Neil Gorey made several incisive runs and got some very good scores.  James Murphy in the full forward line against Vincent’s was also very good and caused his marker no end of trouble while Glen Byrne was tigerish and let nothing pass.
