U13s Go Out West

Body

On Sunday May 1st 28 U13s together with parents, brothers and sisters travelled to Galway to play Craughwell and Clarinbridge in challenge matches. The first games against Craughwell were held on their new training ground and entailed two teams each playing was turned out to be lively and engaging matches against good host opposition.

The stronger team ended in a draw which saw a few missed chances go abegging as the major scores proved elusive in the smaller goals. Take your point is the learned lesson taken. The second team outclassed their opposition significantly but enjoyed the challenge nonetheless. After the obligatory tea and sandwiches generously provided by Craughwell in true GAA fashion we repaired to the Maldron Oranmore hotel for a swim and some bowling.

Clarinbridge unfortunately suffered a bereavement and couldn’t play us in the afternoon so we set up a match between ourselves which was played as a charity challenge with some €275 going to a charity chosen by each team. Cancer Research played v Special Olympics with the latter taking home the spoils as a result of some early goals.

The next morning the entire crew headed to Eilemental Outdoor Activity centre in Furbo located in the middle of a wind turbine farm where all enjoyed archery, Frisbee golf, orienteering and a very competitive laser tag between mixed teams of parents and children before a lot of tired bodies got back on the bus for home
