 U14B Tournament – Sun 18th April

Today we welcomed GAA clubs from Counties Down, Carlow & Dublin to our four team U14 tournament held in splendid if slightly overcast conditions in SilverPark. Proceedings commenced at 13:30 with both pitches in use & all teams in action. Follow on games were held at 2:30 & 3:30. Games were 20 mins per half with 5 mins interval and 15mins break between games. We were joined by Bredagh from Co. Down (South Belfast), MLR (Mount Leinster Rangers) from Carlow and South Dublin neighbours Ballyboden B. A special word of acknowledged to Donncha Hanrahan from Bredagh who was returning “home” to Crokes were he played up to U21 level.

This was an excellent days hurling for all teams. The Crokes panel on the day was: Hubert Barry, Daniel Bohan, Paul Comerford, Richard Couse, Kevin Culligan, John Egan, Cian Fahy, Cillian Fleming, Ross Finnegan, Ruairi Geraghty, Cian Montague, Stephen O’Hurley, Matthew Redmond, Syed Rizvi, Colin Smyth, Shane Vallom, Adam Tuck, Feargal Whitley, Cathal Keane, Tom Duke, Sean Crowe, Dan Coakley, Des Dagg, Alex Considine, Ronan Kennedy & Barney Sultan. Our 1st game pitted us against an excellent Bredagh team – it was nip and tuck all the way. Alex Considine goaled for the home team in some style to make it a drawn game as the clock wound down. Bredagh fashioned a goal with the very final puck of the game, with what was to prove the decisive score of the tournament,  to win on the scoreline of 4-3 to 2-6 (having led at the break on the by 3-0 to 1-3).

The 2nd game brought wholesale changes in our 1st 15 and a very entertaining game v Boden. Crokes ran out winners 4-2 to 3-1 having led at the break by 2-2 to 0-0. A spirited Boden team upped their game in the 2nd half  the ensure the contest was in the balance to the end.

The final game was against a good MLR team on the bigger SilverPark 1 pitch. Kilmacud ran out winners on a score of 6-7 to 4-2. The home side dominated the early stages scoring four goals before a spirited comeback saw a half time score of  Kilmacud 4-2 MLR 3-1.

For the record the full set of results on the day were: Kilmacud Crokes 2-6, Bredagh 4-3; MLR 1-9, Ballyboden (Dublin) 1-1; Kilmacud Crokes 4-2, Ballyboden 3-1; Bredagh 5-1, MLR 2-6 Kilmacud Crokes; 6-7, MLR 4-2; Bredagh 4-2, Ballyboden 1-3

The day saw many strong performances with particular mention to Matt Redmond, Cian Fahy, Richard Couse, Alex Considine, Cathal Keane and captains for the day Ruairi Geraghty & Paul Comerford. At the final count Bredagh won the tournament with Kilmacud second and both were rewarded with medals presented by Hurling Club Chairman Tom Barry. Thanks to fellow selector Brian Geraghty for all his help in the lead up to the tournament. A special word of thanks to Naomhan O’Reardon & Cillian Doherty for their on going work with the U14B panel.  Finally thanks to Liz Barry, Teresa Geraghty & Sally Sultan on doing a “loaves & fishes” job in feeding the masses on the day!
