U15s beat Lucan to reach Semi Final

Body

On Sunday 19th August 2007 the Kilmacud Crokes under 15’s had a convincing 3-10 to 0-04 championship quarter final win away to Lucan Sarsfields  While the Crokes win was impressive it is important not to get carried away, given Lucan were short a few key players.

070819_U15_Lucan_6.JPG  Playing with a strong wind it was the homesters who had the best of the early exchanges and were two points to nil up after ten minutes, both from frees.  In the eleventh minute a Mark O’Dwyer 20 metre free steadied the ship but two minutes later another Lucan free restored the two point margin.  But for some good goalkeeping by Sean Garvey and powerful play by James O’Keeffe at full back, ably assisted by his two corner men, Steven Beale and Niall Murphy, Lucan might have been further ahead.

At this stage the impetus began to swing to Crokes with the half back line of Fiachra Lynn, Jude Sweeney and Gary Melican beginning to dominate.  A Nico Salvino shot followed up by Dylan Mulligan produced a 65 which O’Dwyer expertly converted in the twelfth minute.  Further Crokes pressure produced no reward until a point from Alex Pilkington in the eighteenth minute brought the sides level.  Within a minute, a short Lucan puck out came back to Mulligan who shot over.  Lucan responded well but could only produce two wides before a good movement involving Dylan Mulligan, Kevin Murphy saw Nico hit the net.  The Crokes half forwards, in particular Oisin O’Gallchobhair and Darrren Lalor, were now on top.  A pointed free just before half time from Mark O’Dwyer had Crokes 1-5 to 0-3 ahead at the break.

In the first minute of the second half, the busy Kevin Murphy had a shot saved – on another day any of or all of his three goal attempts would have raised green flags.  Three minutes later Karl Russell pointed from an acute angle.  Lucan immediately responded in kind from a free, their last score of the game.  In the fortieth minute Nico raised another green flag after good work by Dylan.  Five minutes later Enda Grogan was on the scoresheet with a fine over.  This was followed by a good long distance point from Jude Sweeney.  In the forty ninth minute Nico completed his hat trick – a little more application and competitiveness would really maximise his potential.  In the fifty first minute a Mark O’Dwyer pointed free stretched the lead. By now Graham Fogarty was working to good effect.   In the fifty fifth minute Dylan Mulligan had the final say with a point.  Overall a quite satisfactory result but bigger challenges lie ahead and it is important not to get carried away.
