U16B's beaten 3-10 to 1-04 by Nmh Barrog in blustery Silverpark

Body

Following a season that exceeded expectations the end of the road came for the battling Kilmacud Crokes under 16B hurlers in the E Championship semi final at a blustery Silverpark on Saturday 7 October 2006.

After three minutes the sides were level at a point a piece, the Crokes score coming from Conor Caulfield.  Next came what was probably the most telling period in the game when Naomh Barrog added a point and then two goals in quick succession.  This left the Kilmacud men with a mountain to climb.  A good Colm Garvey goal, following a fine catch, brought Crokes back into it and from then until well into the second half the Stillorgan team gave as good as it got.  Garvey’s goal presaged a purple patch for Crokes during which Caulfield added another minor from a free and Killian O’Doherty notched a good over.  Barrogs tacked on three more points before half time to leave the interval score 2-5 to 1-3 in their favour.

A thirty second minute point from a 60 metre free by Caulfield meant game on and even though Crokes were not to score again it was not for the want of effort. On occasion the Kilbarrack goal led a charmed life.  With nine minutes remaining there were only six points in it.  Unfortunately from then on Naomh Barrog took over and added further scores to put a somewhat flattering margin between the teams at the game’s end.

On a day when the Crokes lads could hold their heads high sterling performances were given by Paul Collins and his two corner backs Shane Timmons and David O’Reilly.  Half backs Jack Doughan and Cathal Thornton also shone while at centrefield Killian Forde never gave up.  Great credit is due to the entire panel and management of Paddy Hanley, Billy Noctor and Ciaran Sheeran for their efforts throughout the year for which the championship semi-final spot was hard earned and well deserved.  Our thanks also to the parents and all the others who assisted.
