Under 11s turn on the style against Limerick tourists

Body

On a memorable weekend for Dublin hurling, Crokes u11s hosted Monaleen of Limerick in our final challenge match before the summer break.

It was a fine morning for hurling in Stepaside on Saturday and both teams got stuck in from the start. Our last warm up drill before the match had involved the lads taking their points from all over the pitch and they continued in the same style from the whistle. Beautiful first half scores from Dara MacGabhann and Rory O’Mahony in the full forward line, as well as a brace of points from Brendan Scanlon in mid-field set the tone. Kyle Carragher, Ben Marnell and Luke O’Kelly battled tirelessly in the half back line limiting Monaleen’s attacking opportunities, while Mark Kelly put in his best performance of the year to date.

Conn Lohan and Brian Hayes moved to mid-field for the second half, much to the frustration of the Limerick boys, while Cian O’Cathasaigh, who had a quiet first half in goals, took over in the half forward line and kept the scoreboard ticking over.

Ronan O’Reilly, Daniel Daly and Fionn O’Connor defended staunchly in the second half and at the end of the 50 minutes the Crokes boys had done more than enough.

Thanks to John Dillon and Monaleen for giving us such a tough game and a big shout out to Fiona Hayes who kept the tea and coffee flowing throughout.
