Minor A's beat Lucan Sarsfields

Sunday April 22 Kilmacud Minor A v Lucan Sarsfields.

The day started cold but clear on Sunday which saw the minor a panel travel to take on Lucan. A last minute pitch changed advised after midnight on Saturday didn’t phase the team as they took to the pitch in Arthur Griffith Park to defend their winning run in the league to date. Missing five players, including Caolan Conway, Mark O’Loughlin and Conor Devins, all recovering well from injury and Barry Horan and Ross McGowan, it was another demonstration of the strength of hurling in the club at this age that a strong panel took to the field.

Within 23 seconds Donal Keane had registered the first point and it wasn’t long before Oisin O’Rorke had tacked on another point, before he stood up to take a 21 yard free which rattled to the back of the net.  Conor O’Dwyer in corner forward added another point before Lucan had really woken up, but then they stood up to the challenge and opened their score with a goal, despite strong defending in the back line by Dabhid Corish, Odhran O’Siuchru and Andy Colclough. By half time Lucan were starting to look good, bringing the difference down to two points, on a score line of 1-6 to 1-4 - with the additional scores added by Neil Gorey, Dara O’Gallchobhair and the Dublin Minor goalkeeper – Cian MacGabhann.

Strong words from Matthew Geraghty (Capt) and Cian Gormley during the sos spurred the team to not let the Lucan revival continue. Pat Maguire, joining the minor management for his first match, gave words of advice and encouragement to Rob Murphy and James Murphy in the half back line.

Although it took a while to register the first score in the second half, it started a purple patch for Oisin, as he added 1-03 to the Kilmacud tally, all from frees. Lucan were still in the game though and narrowed the gap to two points, before Neil Gorey first added a point and then a goal to the top near corner. After that the game was practically all played in the Lucan half with further minor scores registered by Dara O’Gallchobhair, Matthew Geraghty, Oisin, Mark McCallion and Conor O’Dwyer leaving the final score at 3-15 to 1-08.

M Herlihy, O O’Siuchru, D Corish, A Colclough, J Murphy, Cian Gormley, Cian MacGabhann (0-1) M Geraghty (0-1f) KJ McGowan, Oisin O’Rorke (2-6 – 2-4 frees), D O Gallchobhair (0-2), N Gorey (1-2), D Keane (0-1), C O’Dwyer (0-2). Subs M McCallion for KJ McGowan, S Bedford for A Colclough

Minor B’s go top of the table

The minor B team had their third win on the trot at Páirc de Búrca on Sunday morning against a determined Alfie Byrne Gaels side. The northsiders had the better of the opening exchanges scoring three points from play. But for the accuracy of Paul Comerford from frees Crokes could have found themselves in trouble. They gradually got into the pace of the game however and with scores from Louis O’Sullivan, Shane Veale and a further brace from Comerford they did well to be two points ahead at the break after playing into a stiff breeze, 0-7 to 0-5.

The Crokes opened the second half in determined style scoring five points without reply with some great scores from Seán Crowe, Paul Comerford, Ronan Horgan and Philip O’Shea. Crokes were on top throughout the pitch after this and when a Gaels player was dismissed for a second yellow card offence half-way through, the game was effectively over as a contest. The final score reflected Crokes superiority in the second half 0-19 to 1-06. Prominent throughout for the Crokes were Ciarán McIntyre, Kevin Ó Flanagáin, Louis O’Sullivan and Mickey O’Dwyer while Karl Doyle was a colossus at full-back. Indeed the second-half performance was a complete team effort with all players including substitutes showing great support play and a real will to win. This result now leaves Crokes on top of the Division Three table.
