Dublin Colleges triumph

Dublin Colleges had a comprehensive 2-16 to 1-6 win over Kilkenny CBS in the Leinster Final in Carlow on Saturday 9th March to claim their second title to add to that won in 2001.  The young Dubs playing with the wind led 0-11 to 0-2 at half time.  A 40th minute goal gave the losers a glimmer of hope but this was soon extinguished.  Crokes’ Rory O’Carroll, Ronan Walsh and Rob O’Loughlin played central roles while Conor Clinton (unfortunately injured the previous week), Kevin O’Loughlin, Brian Hanamy and Bill O’Carroll were also on the panel.  Well done to all concerned.  For report see HERE .

Academy Action

It was a busy Saturday morning for the younger teams.  The under  8’s hit the road for Balheary to play Fingallians and Porterstown –v- Castleknock, both outings in the three team league.  The three team under 9 squad entertained St Vincents at Oatlands as did their under 10 compatriots.  The single team under 9’s played Crumlin at the same venue.  For report see HERE The two team under 10’s went to Old Conna to face Bray Emmets.  The under 11’s also went to distant parts, Carrickhill –v- Naomh Mearnog and Balheary –v- Fingallians.  For two of the under 12 teams it was home turf at Deerpark against O’Dwyers and Faughs.

Minors in Action

On Sunday morning the two minor teams were in league action.  The Division 1 side hosted St Davids (a Craobh Chiaran/Parnells combination) in Silverpark and secured a comprehensive 5-16 to 0-8 win.  Having had the wind advantage Crokes led 3-10 to 0-2 at the break.  Among the best for the winners were Andrew Whelan, Niall Mulligan, Gary McMorrow, Brian Hanamy and Kevin O’Loughlin. For the Division 3 panel it was across to Tymon North to face Faughs.  This was a tough assignment and Crokes had to give way to a stronger home team.  Killian Casey, Cian O’Brien, Colm Garvey and Dara Brennan were most prominent for the Kilmacud lads.  In Parnell Park on Sunday afternoon Ross O’Carroll and James Burke flew the Crokes flag as Dublin put it up to Cork before going down 3-18 to 2-16 in the National Hurling League.
