Sunday 11th April 2010 featured four games

Seniors

At 6pm the seniors travelled to Russell Park to play St Brigids in AHL1. On a lovely bright evening Crokes found the home side too good having been 1-8 to 0-6 behind at the conclusion of the first instalment. The Kilmacud case was not helped by a second minute injury to goalkeeper, Eoin Dalton, to whom we send our best wishes for a speedy recovery. The game was marked by what appeared from the sideline at least to be a surfeit of hastily blown frees. All but three of the first twelve scores came from placed balls including two from 65’s. In the thirtieth minute a point on the turn from Donal McGovern made it 0-5 to 0-8 and Crokes looked in reasonable shape with the short whistle looming. A goal engineered from the puck out put a different sheen on things and gave Brigids a six point cushion going into the pause.

The second half was but six minutes old when an accidental clash between two Brigids players led to another significant disruption. Thankfully the injured player was able to walk off after treatment. If anything, this seemed to spur the Blanchardstown men on and with fifty minutes playing time on the clock they were 1-12 to 0-7 clear. Three Crokes points between minutes fifty two and fifty five narrowed the gap but it was not enough. In the final five minutes four overs were shared as it finished 1-14 to 0-12. Crokes were best served by emergency goalkeeper Jack Doughan, Niall Corcoran, Shane O’Rorke and Donal McGovern.

Team: E Dalton, S McNicholas, N Lillis, A Grogan, J Doughan, N Corcoran, R Walsh, S O’Rorke, A Cleary, B Mulligan, H Gannon, J Burke (0-1), F Armstrong (0-8, f-5, 65-1), D McGovern (0-2), N O’Rearden. Subs R O’Loughlin for E Dalton (inj 2 mins), A de Paor (0-1) for B Mulligan (37 mins) and B Hanamy for H Gannon (45 mins)

Junior A's

The Junior A’s were the first team in action (AHL5) at 11.00am in Silverpark 1. An even first half concluded with Crokes just behind St Vincents, 1-4 to 0-6. The homesters struggled in the second half and at the final whistle the Marino team led 1-12 to 1-7. Among those who contributed most to the Kilmacud effort were Chris Cunningham, before his injury, John Sweeney, Eoin Murphy, goalkeeper Sean Garvey and Jonathon Healy-Hayes.

Team: S Garvey, P Ryan, C O’Keeffe, J Sweeney, C Cunningham, A McCarthy, A Byrne, J Walsh, C Sheehan, C Caulfield, E Murphy, S Canny, J Healy-Hayes, N Butler, A Crean. Subs: B Mahon for C Caulfield, D McAuliffe for A Byrne, P Rath for S Canny, G Melican for C Cunningham (inj) and G Geoghegan for A Crean.

U15's v St Judes

Next up were the under 15’s (league Division 1) at Silverpark 2 against St Judes.

Click here for images of the U15s v Judes Crokes held a 1-8 to 0-3 half time advantage and pressed on for a 4-18 to 1-10 victory. Apart from a ten minutes spell near the end, Crokes were in control throughout. Among those to shine were Conor Hayes, Ronan Horgan, Ciaran McIntyre, Cathal Keane-Breslin and Ryan Conlon.

Junior E's

Like the seniors, the Junior E’s also had to cross the Liffey, playing Na Fianna in Moibhi Road. Leading 1-3 to 0-3 at the interval it looked like Crokes might hold on as they were still ahead, albeit by the minimum, 1-7 to 1-6 with fifty two minutes on the clock. Then came the game changing moment when the Glasnevin men goaled. In the remaining time each side raised a white flag as the match finished 2-7 to 1-8 in Na Fianna’s favour. Best for the losers were Niall McIntyre, who was superb at midfield, Sean Boyd, Gavin Hyland, Ciaran McGrath and Steven Beale.

Team: G Hyland, P Byrne, R Egan, S Boyd, S Beale, P Kennedy, L Whelan, N McIntyre, S O’Keeffe, A Pilkington, B McHenry, H Liston, C McGrath, N Martin, A Cullinane. Subs: F O’Connor for A Cullinane, I O’Keeffe for H Liston, B Halpin for P Byrne and C Connolly for B McHenry.

Intermediates v Oliver Plunketts/Eoghan Ruadh

On Saturday evening (10th April 2010) the intermediates took on Oliver Plunketts/Eoghan Ruadh in AHL3 at Silverpark. Notwithstanding the aid of a slight breeze Crokes were three points in arrears at the interval. A good second half showing seemed enough to assure the points but in the end the south county men had to be satisfied with a share of the spoils, 1-15 to 2-12. Daibhi de Paor (with 1-8), Naomhan O’Rearden, Niall Mulligan, Fergus Garvey and Fergus Monnelly were most prominent for Crokes.

Team: R Tighe, S McNicholas, F Garvey, F Monnelly, R Mangan, D Browne, E de Paor, N Mulligan, K Doherty, B O’Leidhin, A Tiernan, S Murphy, N O’Rearden, D de Paor, M Dalton. Subs: L Cantwell for M Dalton, D McVeigh for S Murphy and E O’Byrne for K Doherty.

Other under age action!

Click here for images of the U16s v Ballyboden A splendidly sunny Saturday afternoon featured some close fought underage games. In the first division of the league the under 16’s led Ballyboden by 0-9 to 0-3 with the aid of the wind after thirty minutes in Silverpark. Crokes had the first attack of the second half but failed to score. Boden then came down for a point and it was game on. At one stage the Firhouse Road lads had it back to two. However, the Crokes team fought manfully and pulled away again to win 0-13 to 1-6. It was difficult to pick out stars from what was essentially a strong team performance where every player put in a committed effort but among those who could be singled out for special mention were the full back trio of Philip O’Shea, Daibhid Corish and Mark Collins, Robert Murphy at centre back, left half back James Murphy and forwards Cian Gormley, Kevin James McGowan and Conor J O’Dwyer.

Team: C Sweeny, P O’Shea, D Corish, M Collins, C O’Dwyer, R Murphy (0-1,f), J Murphy, C Devins, M Geraghty, C Gormley (0-1), KJ McGowan (0-1), C Conway (0-6, f-5), N Gorey (0-2), O O’Rorke (0-1), CJ O’Dwyer (0-1). Subs: B Horan for O O’Rorke, R McGowan for B Horan, A Colclough for M Collins, T Barry for N Gorey.

The under 14A’s played a tough league Division 1 encounter with Cuala at the smaller and tighter of the two Thomastown pitches. At the break the Kilmacud boys trailed by two points but a spirited performance saw them home by 2-14 to 3-9. Desmond Dagg turned in a man of the match performance with able assistance from Conor Gowing, Tadgh Murphy, Sean Crowe and Alex Considine.

Team: T Murphy, L Tucker, E Keane, C O’Shea, S Crowe, E Allen, D Dagg, F O’Reilly, S Keating, A Considine, P Herlihy, D Coakley, C Gowing, E McMahon, M Crowley. Subs used: R Kennedy, B Sultan, C O’Connor, A O’Neill and S Veale.

The under 14B’s had it much more their own way when accounting for Naomh Barrog in Division 3 at Glenalbyn. By half time it was 4-4 to 0-0. Although the visitors got the first score of the second half it did little to reverse the trend that saw Crokes end 6-10 to 1-1 on top and take their first points of the league campaign. One of the under 13 Division 1 teams prevailed after a hard fought game against Naomh Barrog in Pairc de Burca. The home team were 0-5 to 0-3 to the good at the short whistle and secured the points thanks to a late Ronan Hayes over - on a 1-7 to 1-6 margin.

The other Division 1 team had no joy from their away trip to Na Fianna where the hosts were well on top.

The Division 3 side entertained St Peregrines at Silverpark where they lost out by two points.

The under 14A’s, under 14B’s and a combined under 15/16 group took advantage of the school break to hold Easter week training camps with the help of Kilmacud Crokes Hurling coach Niall Corcoran ably assisted, in the case of the under 16’s, by current senior Donal McGovern, and with the under 14B’s by 2009 minor winners Killian Doherty and Naomhan O’Rearden.

As part of the camp the under 15/16 group went to Nenagh on Thursday (8th April 2010) for a coaching session run by Tipperary senior Lar Corbett and, later, a game against Eire Og Nenagh. At the end of a good workout in the McDonagh Park Stadium the Stillorgan boys were 2-15 to 0-12 in front.

Squad: M Herlihy, A Colclough, D Corish, M Collins, C O’Dwyer, R Murphy, J Murphy, C Devins, M Geraghty (0-2), T Barry, C Gormley (0-2), C Conway (0-4, f-2), P O’Shea, C Sweeny, N Gorey (1-6), D Keane (1-0), C Hayes (0-1), G Buckley and D O’Gallchobhair.

At the same time the under 14A were facing up to O’Loughlin Gaels from Kilkenny in Pairc de Burca. The game was played over three thirds of twenty minutes. O’Loughlin’s dominated the first third. Crokes came back in the next period and took over in the final third to win 4-9 to 1-7. Stars included Eamonn Allen, Tom Duke, Tadgh Murphy, and both Eoin Keane and Lorcan Tucker in the full back line.
