Intermediates win 5-08 to 2-08

On Saturday evening in Silverpark they hosted Civil Service in a league tie.  Within four minutes, thanks to a Kevin Dalton goal and three overs from centre forward Shea Gillen, Crokes led 1-3 to 0-0.  While the opposition pegged back three points, a twenty fifth minute David Stafford goal made it 2-3 to 0-3.  However, the remainder of the half was owned by Service.  Points from a 65 and a free plus a goal, on the stroke of half time, meant there was only the minimum in it at the break.

By the thirty second minute the sides were level.  Then Stafford pounced for his second goal.  This was followed by a Ronan Walsh point from the puck out and a good Brian Sheehan minor two minutes later.  The five point gap was cut to four before Sheehan raised another white flag.

In the forty fifth minute Service brought it to 3-6 to 1-8 and only for resolute defending it might have been closer.  Five minutes later Shea Gillen stuck for a goal.  At that stage 4-6 to 1-8 seemed enough to guarantee victory.  However, within two minutes it was 4-6 to 2-8.  It took an Adrian Crean point to ease frayed Crokes nerves.  They then pulled away with another point from Gillen, after neat interpassing between Colm Duggan and Kevin Dalton, and another Stafford goal, to win 5-8 to 2-8.  Major contributors to the victory included goalkeeper Richie Tighe, the full back trio of the Canny brothers and Hugh O’Connor, Aidan Byrne, Shea Gillen, David Stafford and Kevin Dalton.

R Tighe, H O’Connor, D Canny, S Canny, P Clinton, F Monnelly, A Byrne, R Walsh (0-1), A McCarthy, B Sheehan (0-2), S Gillen (1-4), C Sheehan, D Stafford (2-0), A Crean (0-1), K Dalton (2-0).  Subs: R Fanning for C Sheehan, C Duggan for D Stafford, D Stafford for A Crean.

Lots of Action next week!

Action will intensify next weekend and the following week.  Noteworthy games on the horizon include the Seniors’ Championship semi final against Crumlin in Parnell Park, under lights, scheduled for 22nd October, the Minors’ third round robin championship game next Sunday away to Naomh Fionnbarra and the Under 13’s championship county final probably next Saturday.  The Under 10’s will also host a tournament, which has attracted high quality entries, in Glenalbyn on Sunday 19th October.

Hurling Nursery continues apace!

On its fourth Saturday since resumption the Hurling Nursery continued to attract large numbers.  Next Saturday the Nursery remains in Glenalbyn at 10.00am.

All newcomers will begin their training with Niall Corcoran, Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Coach, in “the new group” for a few weeks and then the older new players will be transferred into their appropriate age group. Existing under 6’s (born 2002) and under 7’s (born 2001) will train under Mark Lohan and Ken Hall, respectively. The boys born in 2003 will continue as a separate group and become the “new” Under 6’s at the beginning of 2009.

Communication with parents is by both e-mail and by text.  We strongly encourage parents to subscribe to our tacutext texting service in order to be kept fully informed of team notices, training news, change of venue/pick-up times, etc. specific to your son's group.  Each message you receive will cost you 20c.  The message will be sent to the phone from which the instruction is sent.

Parental Assistance

We appeal to all parents of the new group to offer assistance in any way possible. No previous coaching experience is required and even periodic help is better than none at all. The success of the club relies on volunteers and it is a great way of getting to know other parents. If you are willing to offer any assistance in any capacity, whether it be coaching, roll, setting up pitches, tidying up pitches, etc. etc. please contact any of the following:

Quote from Parent

“As a parent who has 5 children in the club and 2 more about to start, I have got to know more people since I started helping out with my 5th child that I did bringing all my other children to training and matches. Your child will love to see you getting involved.  And remember, these parents are the people you will be standing with on the sideline of pitches for the rest of your son's playing career!  Many helpers lighten the load for everybody.”
