Week Ending 24th February 2008

Body

Regular club hurling is starting to crank up.  On Sunday 24th February 2008 Crokes had four teams in action.

Minors in Action..

The minor A’s visited Cuala for their opening league game and went down 3-12 to 1-7. Best for Crokes were Killian O'Doherty, Gary McMorrow, Niall Mulligan, Eddie O’Byrne and Sean McGrath.  The minors B’s also suffered defeat in their league opener away to Round Towers.

U16's v Naas

In Silverpark the under 16’s had a useful challenge against Naas before going down 3-9 to 1-10 in a game where Louis Whelan, James O’Keeffe, Gary Melican and Eoghan O’Dwyer starred. This was the under 16’s fourth challenge of the year and reflects well on the enthusiasm and commitment of the players and mentors.

Information Day

j0254501.gifSaturday also saw a most successful Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Information Day in Glenalbyn.  Superbly organised by Diarmuid O’Gallchobhair and his team, and run in conjunction with the juvenile registration day, the event featured a poster chronology of the history of Kilmacud Crokes Hurling and stands with information on Kilmacud Crokes Hurling, Punchestown Race Day, coaching, healthy eating as well as presentations by The Beacon Hospital and of their much talked about synthetic hurley by Cultec.  A scanning service for old photographs was also available.  To the delight of the younger folk, Liam McCarthy and a number of his friends were in attendance.  For pictures see HERE

Hurling Arena

On Friday 22nd February, through the good offices of Michael Veale, we Arena_complete.jpgwere fortunate to have former Waterford star, Shane Ahern, give a demonstration in the Arena with the help of the Crokes under 12 squad.  This was a most informative and useful session and we were delighted to receive Shane’s very positive imprimatur for the venue.

To book a slot for your team contact Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Games Office Colm Maher on 087-2755074 or colm.maher@citigroup.com

Punchestown Corporate Race Day

Punchestown08_P1.jpgThe new Hurling Arena in Glenalbyn was built at a cost of €500,000 and will be a huge addition to hurling in the club.  It is entirely funded by the Hurling Section and we still have some way to go.

Our fifth annual Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Corporate Race Day takes place in Punchestown on Tuesday 22nd April 2008 and proceeds go towards the cost of the Arena.  The event has gone from success to success and bookings are now being taken.  Donations or spot prizes remain very welcome.  Please contact Brian Geraghty, Hurling Section, Commercial Officer, 087-2312378 and brianpgeraghty@eircom.net.
