Week ending 26 August 2007

Body

On Saturday the under 10’s travelled to Urlingford to take part in the annual Emeralds tournament.  As always the tournament was excellently organised and our gratitude and compliments to all in the Emeralds club for their hospitality.  The Crokes lads overcame Thomastown, St Johns (Belfast), Dicksboro and Paulstown before accounting for the hosts 4-7 to 1-4 in the final.  Well done to all.

070826_U12_Syl_8.JPGSunday morning saw the minors resume after the Summer break with a one point league win over Ballyboden St Enda’s in Silverpark.  At the same time the under 12 beat St Sylvesters 8-9 to 4-1 in an away league game with starring performances from Niall Kelly, Michael Mitchell, Bejan Melrose, Gregory Buckley and Cormac Cullinane

The only game played during the week was on Thursday when the under 14’s lost to Ballyboden in Oatlands in a league game.

On the representative side, the Dublin under 16’s, with a strong Crokes input, reached the final of the annual Tipperary Supporters Club Tournament.  Having defeated Clare, Wexford and Waterford they went down to Tipperary in the final on Sunday in Semple Stadium.

Saturday 1st September will be one of the biggest days in the calendar for Kilmacud Crokes hurling with the annual AIB Kilmacud Crokes All-Ireland Hurling Sevens.  Running since 1973, this showpiece attracts top club sides from all over the country on the Saturday before the All-Ireland Final and has evolved into a true Festival of Hurling.  Many of the recent winners have used success in the Sevens as a platform for county championship titles (e.g. Erins Own, Cork, Garryspillane, Limerick, Portumna, Galway, Mullinahone, Tipperary).  Over sixty teams will participate and the events of the day will be covered by Setanta Sport TV, local & national radio and print media.

The Sevens is crucial to the success of hurling in the club and a huge logistical exercise.  Its all hands on deck so please don’t be slow in coming forward.  There is plenty to be done.  Volunteers should contact Tom Rock at 086-8333046.
