Senior Hurlers into County Final

The Kilmacud Crokes senior hurlers reached the Dublin county final for the first time since 1996 with a 4-12 to 2-7 semi final victory over Crumlin in Parnell Park on Sunday 26th October 2008.

Playing against the breeze, Crokes led 1-6 to 1-5 at the break.  By the thirty sixth minute Crokes were 2-6 to 1-6 ahead.  A scoring spree that began just before the three-quarter mark effectively ended the game.  With ten minutes to go the Kilmacud side were 4-11 to 1-7 clear and ran out 4-12 to 1-7 winners.  For report see HERE or click on the score below

The county final against Ballyboden is scheduled for Saturday 1st November at Parnell Park with a 3.15pm throw in.  Both minor teams are in championship semi final action in Silverpark at 11.00 a.m. on0 Sunday 2nd November.  The “A’s” play Cuala (MHCA) while the second team face Ballyboden (MHCE).

Intermediates Draw

Saturday saw the Intermediates record a 1-6 to 2-3 draw league draw with Liffey Gaels in Silverpark in conditions anything but conducive to hurling.  For report see HERE .  On Sunday the Junior B’s received a walkover from Kevins in their AHL5 tie as did the under 15’s in their league clash against Sylvesters on Saturday.

Colleges Action

St. Benildus College overcame Colaiste Eanna by 1-8 to 0-7 on Thursday 23rd October in the Dublin Junior “A” Hurling Final at O’Toole Park.  The Upper Kilmacud Road team led 0-8 to 0-2 at half time.  Even though playing against a very strong wind, resolute Benildus defending meant Colaiste Eanna never got closer than a goal.  This was Benildus first ever “A” hurling title.  We were delighted to see Crokes panel members Niall Hanley, who had an exceptional game, Karl Russell, Conor Devins, Paddy Tighe, Ross McGowan, Niall Carr, Nico Salvino, Mark Collins Cian Gormley Andrew Colclough and  Dara Byrne play their part.  Congratulations to all concerned in particular the players and the management team of Crokes senior player, Brendan Hoyne, and Brendan Cahill.  St Benildus next assignement is a Leinster “B” semi final against Callan (Kilkenny).

Juvenile Mentors meet

On Thursday evening forty five people attended the juvenile hurling mentors meeting in the Stillorgan Park Hotel where they heard contributions from Michael Crowe, Juvenile Hurling Chairman, Niall Corcoran Hurling Coach, Tom McIntyre, Juvenile Chairman and Tom Barry Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Chairman followed by a question and answer session.  For pictures click on the image below

Kilkenny advice for Dublin

The search for theoretical excellence continued on Friday night when Kilkenny senior selector, Martin Fogarty, gave a Dublin County Board organised workshop on time and space utilisation to a sizeable gathering that included a large Crokes contingent in the Paddock.  The Crokes under 14 panel acted as demonstrators.

Hurling Academy

The Hurling Nursery resumes on Saturday 1st November Glenalbyn at 10am.  All newcomers will begin their training with Niall Corcoran, Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Coach, in “the new group” for a few weeks and then the older new players will be transferred into their appropriate age group. Existing under 6’s (born 2002) and under 7’s (born 2001) will train under Mark Lohan and Ken Hall, respectively. The boys born in 2003 will continue as a separate group and become the “new” Under 6’s at the beginning of 2009.

Communication with parents is by both e-mail and by text.  We strongly encourage parents to subscribe to our tacutext texting service in order to be kept fully informed of team notices, training news, change of venue/pick-up times, etc. specific to your son's group.  Each message you receive will cost you 20c.  The message will be sent to the phone from which the instruction is sent.

Parental Assistance

We appeal to all parents of the new group to offer assistance in any way possible. No previous coaching experience is required and even periodic help is better than none at all. The success of the club relies on volunteers and it is a great way of getting to know other parents. If you are willing to offer any assistance in any capacity, whether it be coaching, roll, setting up pitches, tidying up pitches, etc. etc. please contact any of the following:

Niall Corcoran, Club hurling coach,  087 983 4287, niall.corcoran@gmail.com

Quote from Parent

“As a parent who has 5 children in the club and 2 more about to start, I have got to know more people since I started helping out with my 5th child that I did bringing all my other children to training and matches. Your child will love to see you getting involved.  And remember, these parents are the people you will be standing with on the sideline of pitches for the rest of your son's playing career!  Many helpers lighten the load for everybody.”
