Week ending 27 May '07, Intermediates into Semi Final, U11s win Cup

Body

Having played Clanna Gael on Tuesday in their final championship round robin game (for report see HERE ) Crokes took the field against Trinity Gaels in Silverpark on Sunday afternoon 27th May 2007.  On a blustery afternoon Crokes were well to the fore in the first half and led 0-7 to 0-2 at the break with Daragh Burke accounting for four of the scores (three from placed balls), the lively Peter Clinton one and half back Willie Ryan two.  With substitute Richie Power notching a point and a goal by the fortieth minute Crokes were in a commanding 1-10 to 0-4 lead.  From then on the visitors were allowed back into the game and outscored the home team 0-5 to 0-1.  This gave rise to some anxious moments for Crokes but it also has to be said the Kilmacud men had a few chances to put the issue beyond doubt.  The result was a very good day’s work and all concerned are to be congratulated on the progress to date.  For full report see  HERE .  Our thanks also to referee Paul Buggy for helping out at such short notice.  As of now the semi final is scheduled for the weekend of 23rd/24th June 2007.

Juvenile Match Action

On a busy Saturday on the juvenile front pride of place goes to the under 11’s who won the “single team” Cup Final by a margin of 4-9 to 1-1 against Crumlin in Deerpark.  Congratulations to squad, management and all connected.  For match report see HERE .

While their counterparts were expanding the year’s trophy haul the “two team” under 11 squad travelled to Fassaroe to play Bray Emmets and emerged comfortable winners against a weakened Bray side.

The under 10’s sent two teams to Naomh Olafs where they had comfortable victories over the homesters.  In Oatlands the three team squad played St Vincents .  The under 9 triple team also played the Marino club (away) and came out on top while their two team equivalent had a bye.  At under 8 level, in the double team league, Crokes hosted Liffey Gaels in Oatlands and the triple team squad hosted Naomh Mearnog at the same venue.

The under 12’s beat Whitehall away in their league by 6-4 to 1-4 with three goals from Adam Spollen, ably assisted by Andrew Price, Tadgh Costello, Stephen Faughey (returning after an injury lay off) and goalkeeper Michael O’Dwyer. For a match report and images see HERE

Saturday afternoon saw both under 13 teams in Division 1 league action at Deerpark.  The “A’s” overcame St Judes 2-12 to 4-4, having led 2-9 to 1-3 with the aid of the wind in the first half.  The B’s accounted for St Brigids 1-8 to 1-5, also having led well at half time, 1-6 to 0-0.  Apart from the influence of the breeze both games had fight backs by the visitors and nervous finales in common.

In Silverpark the under 14’s had a 1-11 to 1-4, round 8 of the league, win over Ballinteer St Johns, reversing the result of their opening league game away to the same opposition.

On Sunday there was further juvenile action.  The under 12’s entertained Naas in the league at Deerpark and came out on top 3-5 to 1-3.  The under 13’s travelled to Toomevarra to play an under 13/14 combination from the home club and refresh a long standing connection between the two clubs in the form of Pairc de Burca being named after Toomevarra man Micheal de Burca.  The first half was even and at half time the score stood Crokes 0-5, Toomevara 1-2.  Crokes had the upper hand for the first fifteen to twenty minutes of the second half and pulled seven points clear.  The Tipperary youngsters fought back and at the end the margin score read 2-12 to 4-3 in Crokes favour.  Many thanks to our hosts for their very kind hospitality.  From Toomevara the squad proceeded to Semple Stadium for the Cork –v- Clare Munster Hurling Championship clash.

Squad:

Conor Sweeny, Daibhid Corish, James Murphy, Philip O’Shea, Conor O’Dwyer, Oisin O’Rorke (0-5), Ross McGowan, Robert Murphy (0-1), Conor Devins (1-1), Conor O’Byrne, Matthew Geraghty (0-1), Matthew McNicholas, Caolan Conway (0-2), Kevin James McGowan (0-2), Eoin Ryall, Andrew Colclough, Michael Herlihy (1-0), Mark Collins and Barry Horan.

Junior B’s and Junior 5’s

The Junior B’s replicated the under 13’s journey to play Tipperary opposition and travel on to Thurles.  Their opposition was Lorrha in North Tipperary.  Star of the show in a 2-13 to 4-09 victory was Gavin Hyland who put three goals past former Tipp keeper. Ken Hogan.  Gavin was ably supported by Paul Ryan, Richie Fanning, Bryan O’Shaughnessy and Colm Maher.

On Thursday Crokes made the long journey out to Hartstown, near Blanchardstown, to face current table-toppers St. Peregrine’s in the Junior 5 championship preliminary series.  After a hard fought and good natured game the visitors ended up on the wrong side of a 0-9 to 1-2 scoreline.  For report see the aptly titled “Croke’s French Import Scores First Goal But Champagne Still On Ice” click HERE
