Leinster League - Seniors v Rathdowney Erril

At the end of Saturday afternoon's (27th March 2010) opening 2010 Leinster League game the points went to Laois visitors Rathdowney Erril. By the end of the first quarter the Laois side led 0-3 to 0-2. A goal put them five clear. Crokes dominated the rest of the half but this was not reflected on the scoreboard and the half finished 1-7 to 0-6 in favour of the O'Moore county men. Crokes made a number of half time substitutions. A second goal, from distance, pushed the Laois men six points clear by the thirty eight minute when it was 2-9 to 0-8. Even with a strengthening breeze it was an uphill task for the Kilmacud team. The margin was reduced to three (2-9 to 0-12) by the end of the third quarter. With Rathdowney deploying an extra defender, that was as close as Crokes got and the game ended 2-12 to 0-14.

Coláiste Eoin triumphant again in Parnell Park!

There was better news on the Colleges front as Colaiste Eoin kept their stranglehold on the Dublin Schools’ Juvenile A hurling championship after they claimed their third title in succession at Parnell Park on Wednesday 23rd March 2010 – defeating St Aidan’s by 2-9 to 1-7.

The Stillorgan boys (with a number of Crokes players to the fore) excelled in the second half, with corner-forward Colm Ó Néill leading from the front. With the teams going in level at the break, Ó Néill struck for a goal almost immediately after the whistle and he went on to score five more points, with midfielder Fionn Ó Rian Broin adding two more.

St Aidan’s gave a good account of themselves and fought bravely until the end, but the champions had too much in the end.
