Kilmacud Crokes Hurling is delighted with the appointment of Anthony Daly, a regular visitor to our Punchestown Race Day, as the new Dublin senior hurling manager and wishes him well in his new role.

Anthony is a former Clare All-Ireland winning captain and manager.  Following a glittering hurling career during which he captained Clare to Liam MacCarthy glory on two occasions (1995 and 1997) he returned to the Clare senior team in 2003, this time as manager.  In 2005 Daly’s side had the reigning All-Ireland champions, Cork, on the ropes in the All-Ireland semi-final and also reached the semi-final the following year against Kilkenny.

We also send our congratulations and best wishes to Vincent Teehan, former Crokes senior manager, who will assist Anthony

Dublin and Crokes hurling received a great fillip when Dublin South Colleges beat Kilkenny CBS in the Leinster Senior Colleges “A” Final (Corn Ui Dhuill) in Carlow on Wednesday.  The sides finished all square in regulation time and at the end of extra time it was Dublin South 2-16 Kilkenny C.B.S. 0-18.  The victors were captained by Crokes Kevin O’Loughlin while Bill O’Carroll, Killian Doherty and Sean McGrath also started.  Darren McVeigh and Barry Mulligan were introduced.  Jack Doughan and Gary McMorrow were also on the panel.  For report see HERE

On Saturday it was a case of too little too late for Crokes in the Dublin South Section Final (County semi-final) of the under 21 hurling championship at Silverpark against Lucan Sarsfields.  Boosted by the return of the five players who found themselves exam tied for the 2007 senior league final on Monday and one of the players unavailable through injury for that match, for more the fifty minutes of this game the home team were outclassed and outfought.

Crokes opened the scoring with a Kevin Dalton point in the third minute.  By half time Lucan were 1-6 to 0-4 ahead and by the fifty second minute had stretched this to 1-12 to 0-5.  A Neil Casey goal at that stage reduced the margin to seven.  Another major five minutes later and a pointed free in the fifty ninth minute left just three in it but time ran out and, with it, Crokes hopes of progression.  Final score 1-12 to 2-6.

Team: R Tighe, R Walsh, F Garvey, A Hopkins, S Gillen, Rory O’Carroll, R O’Loughlin, P Clinton, Ross O’Carroll, B Sheehan, C Clinton, N Casey (1-0), S O’Rorke, K Dalton (0-1), B O’Rorke (0-5, f -4, 65 -1),  Subs: B O’Carroll for A Hopkins, F Monnelly for S Gillen, N Butler for B Sheehan, S McNicholas, B Mahon, S McGrath, K O’Loughlin and G McMorrow

Monday’s 2007 senior hurling league final turned out to be very  disappointing with Crokes, hit by exam related withdrawals on the morning of the match, putting up token resistance and going down 6-17 to 3-8.  One of the few positives from a Crokes point of view was it gave the chance to try out Ballyboden’s new floodlit all-weather surface at Sancta Maria school.

Team: R Sweetnam; W Ryan, D Byrne; R Mangan, A De Paor, A Grogan, D De Paor; N Corcoran, F Armstrong, H Gannon, J Burke, B Motherway; S Gillen, E Fitzgerald, A Tiernan.  Sub E de Paor for A Tiernan.

Parental Assistance

We appeal to all parents of the new group to offer assistance in any way possible. No previous coaching experience is required and even periodic help is better than none at all. The success of the club relies on volunteers and it is a great way of getting to know other parents. If you are willing to offer any assistance in any capacity, whether it be coaching, roll, setting up pitches, tidying up pitches, etc. etc. please contact any of the following:

Quote from Parent

“As a parent who has 5 children in the club and 2 more about to start, I have got to know more people since I started helping out with my 5th child that I did bringing all my other children to training and matches. Your child will love to see you getting involved.  And remember, these parents are the people you will be standing with on the sideline of pitches for the rest of your son's playing career!  Many helpers lighten the load for everybody.”
