Week Ending 5th April 2010

Body

Bank holiday Easter Monday (5th April 2010) had two teams traveling.

The seniors went to Kilkenny to play Clara in the second round of the Leinster League and came out the wrong side of a 3-7 to 0-11 scoreline.

Earlier in the week, Wednesday 31st March 2010, the seniors played St Judes in a challenge in Belfield and used the opportunity to give several players a run out.

The under 14’s headed to Offaly where they played a challenge against Kilcormac Killoughey. This was a game of two halves. Against a gale like wind, the Kilmacud boys were well down at half time. In the second period they confined the hosts to a few points as the match ended 4-10 to 3-11 in Kilcormac’s favour. Among those to star for Crokes were Michael Crowley, Conor Gowing, Sean Keating, Frances O’Reilly, Eamonn Allen and Tadgh Murphy who was very composed in goal.

Squad: T Murphy, D Coakley, T Duke, C O’Shea F O’Reilly, E Allen, P Herlihy, S Keating, S Crowe, M Crowley, E McMahon, C Gowing, C Keane, S Veale, R Kennedy, A O’Neill, D Dagg and B Sultan.

On Good Friday the under 13B’s had a great run of Corn Lughaidh Mac Mathúna, part of the Kevins Hurling Club Easter Tournament, when they went all the way to the final before giving way to Lucan Sarsfields. En route, Crokes played a series of tight games accounting for St Judes, Setanta and the hosts while going under to their conquerors in the final.

Sunday 5th April 2010 saw the under 8’s make their first foray out of Dublin when they headed into the west. First stop was Oranmore Maree for games against the locals. Following a great reception from the host club it was on to Pearse Park, Salthill, to support the Dubs in their Allianz National Hurling League Division 1 game against Galway. Here the excitement continued with half time games against Salthill and another warm welcome. Sincere thanks to Mark Lohan and his fellow mentors for organising and to all in Galway who facilitated the trip. For more see HERE

In the intercounty game, thanks to a strong second half showing, the Liffeysiders were a point to the good with five minutes left to play. Unfortunately the Tribesmen were able to tack on scores to edge an 0-17 to 0-15 victory. The Dublin defence was particularly impressive with Crokes Niall Corcoran especially catching the eye. For report see HERE. The result means the Dubs must take at least a point from their final match against Limerick (Parnell Park, Sunday, April 18) to preserve their Division 1 status. All support very welcome.
