Week Ending 7th June 2009

On the representative front, Niall Corcoran filled the number 2 shirt for Dublin in their Leinster Senior Hurling Championship quarter final joust with Antrim at Crokes Park on Sunday 7th June 2009.  A 2-16 to 0-12 win put Dublin through to a semi-final date with Wexford, on Sunday 21st June 2009 in Nowlan Park.. At club level, Tuesday 2nd June 2009 saw the seniors record their first win of the 2009 senior league when overcoming current table toppers St. Judes.  Crokes led 3-10 to 0-9 at the break.  With a quarter of an hour remaining the Kilmacud side led by fifteen points.  In a classic case of “taking the foot off the pedal” Judes were allowed back into the game and at the end Crokes just about hung on to win 4-15 to 2-18.  Best for the victors were corner forwards Peter Clinton and Kevin Dalton, Niall Mulligan at corner back, midfielder Shea Gillen and Damien Byrne, who gave an assured display in the pivotal position.

Team: C Clinton, W Ryan, F Garvey, N Mulligan, H Gannon, D Byrne, R Walsh, S Gillen, B O’Rorke, J Burke (1-2), E de Paor (0-1), S O’Rorke, P Clinton (1-4), F Armstrong (1-7, F-5, 65-1), K Dalton (1-1).

The same evening the intermediates had a one point AHL4 win away to Faughs at Tymon Park North.

On Wednesday the Junior B’s suffered a one goal defeat at the hands of Scoil Ui Chonaill in AHL5 at Clontarf.  In Silverpark the Junior C3’s also lost by a single score, 3-5 to 0-13, against Wild Geese in AHL8.

On Thursday the Junior B’s played a draw with Glenealy’s (Wickow) intermediate team.  Friday 5th June 2009 saw the intermediates travel to Clondalkin Community Centre to take on Round Towers in An Corn Ceitinn where they came out the wrong side of a 3.16 to 2.9 scoreline.

The following evening the Junior C3’s hosted Erin Go Breagh in the Eddie Barron Shield at Silverpark, going down by 4-4 to 3-5.  Among the leading performers were Hugh Liston in goal, Niall McIntyre, Brendan Halpin, Pat Kennedy at centre back and Tom McIntyre

The travel hungry under 13’s destination on Saturday 6th June 2009 was Cork for the six team Na Piarsaigh tournament.  Defeats to Killeagh (Cork), 4-2 to 1-5, and St John’s (Belfast) by 4-4 to 1-6 led to a Plate Final appointment with Clara of Kilkenny.  On a fine Summer’s day it looked for much of the game as if the Crokes boys would head home empty handed.  However, a brave fight back when down against the breeze in the second half culminated in a 4-9 to 3-5 win.  For a more detailed report check the latest news section shortly.  Once again many thanks to our generous hosts and to all who made the trip possible.

Parental Assistance

We appeal to all parents of the new group to offer assistance in any way possible. No previous coaching experience is required and even periodic help is better than none at all. The success of the club relies on volunteers and it is a great way of getting to know other parents. If you are willing to offer any assistance in any capacity, whether it be coaching, roll, setting up pitches, tidying up pitches, etc. etc. please contact any of the following:

Quote from Parent

“As a parent who has 5 children in the club and 2 more about to start, I have got to know more people since I started helping out with my 5th child that I did bringing all my other children to training and matches. Your child will love to see you getting involved.  And remember, these parents are the people you will be standing with on the sideline of pitches for the rest of your son's playing career!  Many helpers lighten the load for everybody.”
