U16s v Ballinteer St John's

j0223791.gifThe under 16’s had a hard earned 0-9 to 0-7 league win over Ballinteer St Johns in Silverpark.  Crokes trailed by the minimum, 0-5 to 0-4, at the short whistle, having registered just one point from play.  Within a minute of the restart Crokes were level and then Ken Kelly, who switched from goal to corner forward at half time, put them one up.  By the thirty sixth minute the visitors made it 0-6 each.   A scoreless seventeen minutes followed before Ballinteer regained the initiative.  This was cancelled by an Alex Pilkington free and then a good Niall Carr point nosed the Stillorgan boys ahead.  The game could have gone either way in the remaining minutes with Crokes mixing the bad (conceding silly frees which fortunately were not converted) and the good before, fittingly, Ken Kelly closed out the game with a superb over.  Significant in the 0-9 to 0-7 win were two late forages and runs by wing forward Fionan Motherway, which even if they did not produce scores directly, carried the fight to the opposition end of the field.  The Kilmacud stars included Kelly, Niall Hanley, Shane Moran, Conal O’Neill and Andrew Cullinane.

Team: K Kelly, N Hanley, S Moran, S Boyd, O O’Carroll, N Carr, C O’Neill, A Pilkington, E Doherty, F Motherway, J Cassidy, A Cullinane, J O’Brien, K Finn, J Clinton.  Subs; P Tighe for J O’Brien, J Huban for K Finn, D Sinnott, J Dineen.

U13's v St Maurs & Crumlin

The under 13A’s played St Maurs in a wind swept top pitch at Deerpark.  Crokes were 1-2 to 1-1 ahead at half time.  Wind advantage in the second half helped them to a 4-7 to 2-2 win.  To the fore were Michael Crowley, Eoin Keane, Sean Crowe and Tom Duke.

Team: Conor Gowing, Mark McCallion, Tom Duke, Eoin Keane, Sean Crowe, Stephen Doyle, Daniel Coakley, Michael Crowley, Cian O’Connor, Peter Herlihy, Eamonn Allen, Adam O’Neill, Ronan Kennedy, Shane Veale, Eoin McMahon.  Subs; Killian O’Shea for Eoin Keane, Lorcan Tucker for Ronan Kennedy.

The under 13B’s were less fortunate, also in the league.  They were 1-1 to 0-1 to the good against Crumlin in Pearse Park.  In spite of the best endeavours of Tadgh Murphy, Niall Sweeney, Kevin Browne, who goaled with his first touch in a Crokes jersey, and Gavin McDermott they could not sustain the effort against the strong wind and went down 1-7 to 1-1.

Dublin Colleges

On the representative front Dublin Colleges South lost their Leinster Senior A Colleges semi-final to Castlecomer CS at Athy on a 3-18 to 0-12 margin  This was the first year Dublin split into South and North combinations and earlier in the season the South team claimed the Leinster A League title.  Well done to all concerned in particular the strong Crokes contingent.

The under 15’s opened their Division 1 league campaign with a 5-9 to 2-4 victory over a depleted St Judes at Silverpark.  A sleet shower before the game was followed by some brilliant sunshine with a strong cross wind.  With dominance around the centre and Barry Horan rampant at full forward Crokes led 5-1 to 0-1 at the break.  It was much the same in the second half even if the visitors came more into it.  On a day where they were not severely tested Crokes leading performers included Louis O’Sullivan, Robert Murphy, Ross McGowan, Oisin O’Rorke, Barry Horan, substitute Andrew Coclough and Caolan Conway who made some fine saves in goal

Junior B's v Clontarf

j0223791.gifThe Junior B’s were in afternoon action at Silverpark 1 in the Doyle Cup against Clontarf.  Crokes turned over 0-4 to 0-9 behind.  Two long range frees from Conor Sheehan had the deficit down to three by the thirty fourth minute.  Two points from Clontarf made it 0-6 to 0-11.  A good pull for a point by Patrick Byrne and it was 0-7 to 0-11 with Crokes very much in the game.  Immediately afterwards came the crucial score when the northside team goaled.  Crokes tried valiantly to get back in the game but the Clontarf goal led a charmed life.  A good run by Niall Butler set up Ciaran O’Grady for a smartly taken over in the fiftieth minute.  Shortly after O’Grady added another good point and there were five in it, 0-9 to 1-11.  Clontarf broke forward and goaled against the run of play to effectively finish the game with five minutes left.  A late Colm Duggan free saw the match end 0-10 to 2-11.  Crokes best included Paddy Igor, Oran Turley, Donal Monnelly, Conor Sheehan, John Ross Hunt, Niall Butler and Ciaran O’Grady.

Team: R Tighe, P Ryan, P Igoe, O Turley, D Monnelly, D Staunton, N Hall, C Sheehan, C Duggan, K Noctor, J R Hunt, S Canny, C Baker, N Butler, H O’Connor.  Subs: P Byrne for C Baker, C O’Grady for K Noctor, K Noctor for D Staunton, D Staunton for N Butler.

Quote from Parent

“As a parent who has 5 children in the club and 2 more about to start, I have got to know more people since I started helping out with my 5th child that I did bringing all my other children to training and matches. Your child will love to see you getting involved.  And remember, these parents are the people you will be standing with on the sideline of pitches for the rest of your son's playing career!  Many helpers lighten the load for everybody.”
