Weekend report for 9/10 December 2006

Body

Weekend 9th and 10th December 2006

In the last competitive game of the year the under 15A’s completed the Championship and League double with a 2-8 to 1-3 win over St Vincents in the Division 1 League playoff in Silverpark on Saturday 9th December 2006.

Crokes came out of traps well and were 1-4 ahead before St Vincent opened their account and then brought the game 1-4 to 1-1.  A further point from Crokes had them deservedly ahead 1-5 to 1-1 at half time.

Turning over with the aid of a strong icy wind Crokes got the first two points of the half and it looked as if they would pull away but inexplicably seemed to lose concentration and allowed the northsiders back into the game - so much so that with only four points in it with three minutes to go and Crokes were under the kosh.  However a late 1-1 from Johnny Brew put daylight between the teams and achieved a first double at this age for the club.  Stars for Crokes on the day included Keith Hogarty, Cian O’Brien, Jack Doughan, Alan Carr, Bill O’Carroll, Killian Doherty and Johnny Brew

Team:

Keith Hogarty, Cian O’Brien, Paul Collins, Jack Doughan, Matthew Kinsella, Bill O’Carroll, Alan Carr, Eddie O’Byrne, Killian Doherty, Eoin Dalton, Sean Murphy, Barry Mulligan, Johnny Brew, Naomhan O’Riordan, Sean McGrath (capt).  Subs: Killian Casey and Brendan Halpin.

U10's v Faughs

On Sunday the under 10’s had a good workout in a challenge in the all-weather Paddock against Faughs.  This was a highly competitive game with great skill displayed by both teams and was a real demonstration of the value of the new facility.  Stars for Crokes included Barney Sultan, Ciaran Ramsey, Daniel Coakley, Ronan Kennedy, Stan O’Neill, Peter Herlihy and Stephen Barr.

U12's punching above their weight??

Also on Sunday the under 12 parents recorded a mighty one goal victory against their offspring after a tough encounter.  Netminder Denis Gorey was superb fronted by a very effective full back pairing of Kevin Collins and Peter Corish.  Tom Barry mopped up well at centre back.  Triathlete Kieran Gowing showed the value of a year’s preparation, skilfully directed by Ronan Conway   Dashing half forward Eamonn O’Dwyer had too much speed for his many markers while Kerry great Tom Murphy was awesome.  Inside Michael McNicholas gave lie to the theory there are no forwards in Mayo while Kevin McGowan had immense presence.  Great credit is due to the under 12’s that they came within a single score of such a galaxy of finely tuned athletes.
