Wholehearted Display from U-14B's (4th May 2006)

Body

The Under-14B's were somewhat unlucky not to beat Parnells in a tough encounter played in murky conditions in Glenalbyn on Thursday evening (4th May). After conceding four early points, the team took the lead mid-way throgh the second half in a low scoring match but eventually lost on a score of 2-0 to 2-5. The game was only decided through a late speculative free, which dropped into the net in semi-darkness.

Given that Crokes had to field without a couple of their better players and then lost Alan Smyth (10mins) and David McNamara (17mins) through injury, this was a plucky display by any standards. Sean Garvey was excellent in goals. All the defence played well but particular mention must be made of Rory Gogarty (Capt.) at full-back and Andrew McEvoy at wing back. As everyone played their level best, it would be unfair to single out any other players other than Barry O'Farrell, who was fearless with his ball control against some opponents, who were literally twice his size. Well done Barry!

With Feile na nGael looming on the horizon, this team can look forward to the event with real optimism
