All Ireland Sevens 2013!

The Pitch was perfect, the weather was beautiful, the teams arrived and everything was off to an incredible start for our Annual U14 Ladies 7's.  .

Emerging from the Group Stages to the Quarter final stages in the PLATE Competition were:

Shelmaliers   V    Mungrets

Kilmoremoy   V   Dunboyne

Tinahely        V   Naomh Bride

Dungarvan     V   Kilkenny City

The Semi- final contestants were:

Shelmaliers    V  Tinahely

Kilmoremoy    V  Dungarvan

This led to a final between Tinahely and Dungarvan  (who were bidding for their 3rd title in a row.)

For long Periods, the match could have belonged to either team but in the end Tinahely ran out comprehensive winners 6 -13 to 4- 09. Well done to Tinahely, first time ever to win the Sevens Plate..
In the Cup Competition the Quarter finals saw the following teams earn a place.

Monasterevan  V  Ballinteer St Johns

St Vals             V St Patricks

Corofin             V Glanmire

 Killucan           V Kilkerrin-Clonberne

After some very hard-fought encounters the semi-final teams were:

Monasterevan V Corofin

ST Vals        V Killucan

While the opposition stayed with them for most of the match it was clear that St Vals and Corofin would emerge winners. So the stage was set for the Cup Final.  These teams had meet in the semi-final of the All-Ireland Feile so they knew each other well.

Corofin took control early in the match and racked up several scores but St Vals were not to be discouraged they continued to play and clawed back the lead until they were a point ahead.  Both teams refused to give an inch and with some fine displays of football particularly from Ciara McCarthy no 5. for St Vals  and No 8 For Corofin Leanne Coen (who was the player who was awarded player of the tournament), it was a nail-biting finish.   Corofin emerged victorious on a narrowest of margins - 2 points 10-5 to 10-3.  We saw the Corofin ladies repeat what their mail counterparts had done a few weeks earlier.  Well done to all 4 teams and their mentors in the finals, the standard of football was excellent and the encouragement and support shown to all the girls win loose or draw was a credit to all the teams who took part.

Congratulations to our Plate and Cup Winners for 2013 Tinahely and Corofin.
