Championship ends for Crokes

Crokes Ladies Intermediate Championship Semi Final finished on Wednesday night in Broomfield  - St Sylvesters 2-11 Kilmacud Crokes 2-10

  Tesco Home Grown - Inter Championship 2012 &emdash;

From the outset pressure from the Crokes backs Gillian O'Brien and Louise Byrne forced errors in the Sylvestors scoring efforts,  while the Crokes forwards proved more economical in their shooting with scores from Aoife Gallagher and Carrie Nash.

Oonagh Murphy's work rate in mid-field was impressive taking her own scores as well as threading some excellent ball through to the forwards and at half time Crokes led by two points.

 In the second half St Slyvesters maintained the pressure with the lead changing hands several times but Crokes weathered the storm with some excellent scores of their own and maintained their two point advantage

In the dying moments a long ball saw the sylvesters forward descend on goal. This forced Martha O'Connor (Crokes Goalie) off her line to intercept the kick, which the referee deemed a penalty.

Sinead Aherne made no mistake and now Sylvesters led by the narrowest of margins.  Time was up and the ref blew the final whistle on the kickout and Crokes were out of the championship by the narrowest of margins.

 With several of our players working abroad for the summer this was a bitterly disappointing result for the team who had to work so hard in their absence.  Well done to all the girls and to the management team of Tommy Doran, Camillus Fitzpatrick and Dave Egan.
