Molly Lamb and the All Ireland Final

Ahead of this weekend's U21 Aisling McGing All Ireland final between Dublin and Cork in Nenagh Nigel McCarthy from WeAreDublin spoke to Dublin midfielder and Kilmacud Crokes Star, Molly Lamb.

The Interview

Q: Molly how have preparations gone ahead of Sunday's Final.

"Preparations have gone really well we had a week of hard training last week and have worked on all aspects of our game; we are under no illusions of how good this Cork team are, so we are making sure we are properly prepared for Sunday's game. We have also had a couple of really good challenge games over the last couple of weeks."

Q: This year you seem to be playing a more holding role around the middle and not venturing forward as much as maybe last season what's the reason for that.

"Primarily it's to stop us been opened up and conceding goals and I've always been more defensive minded anyway as a player. But it is flexible if space opens up I am encouraged by the management to attack and drive forward I suppose it's all about taking responsibility and playing the situation but you still have be mindful of the defensive side of it as well."

Q: How have the players coped with the lack of games and gaps between matches?

"The players have coped fine we are used to it, we have trained hard in between and there has also been some club games so that's kept us busy. A lot of us played at this level before so we are accustomed to the structure of it and the number of games and gaps between them so it's not a problem."

Q: Do you think Cork might hold an advantage in match sharpness having played twice as many games as Dublin to reach the final.

"Possibly they might but we would be happy with our own preparations and match sharpness, we have had a couple of in-house games that would have been very competitive and intense so I'd be happy that our sharpness would be fine we will see on Sunday."

Q: This is your second year working under Gregory McGonigle and his assistant Davy Burke what impresses you about them

"Their commitment, energy and work rate really impresses me. The amount of work they put in is phenomenal no stone is left unturned in preparing the squad. They are also very encouraging to the players and are excellent at developing players and getting the best out of them. I really enjoy working with them at both U21 and senior level."
