U15 A Championship V Na Fianna - Sept 8th

Body

September 8th Kilmacud Crokes U15A 6-8 v Na Fianna 5-7.

St. Benildus College was the venue for this U15A Division 1 Group B Championship clash between Kilmacud and Na Fianna on Saturday last September 8th. Kilmacud started very strongly and created multiple scoring chances but it took a while to settle and many of those chances slipped wide of the mark. Na Fianna were effective in taking scores from the relatively rare attacks they made into the Kilmacud half. After a very low scoring first 15 mins (one point a piece) the scores then began to flow. An early penalty was awarded to Na Fianna and Clodagh made an excellent save. The next 15 minutes produced five goals and a brace of points – 3 for Kilmacud and 2 for Na Fianna with a penalty scored by each. This brought the half-time score to Kilmacud 3-4 and Na Fianna 2-3.

Both teams traded a point on the restart and then Na Fianna goaled to narrow the Kilmacud lead to one point. Kilmacud hit another purple patch scoring two goals within 5 minutes. The next 5 minutes saw Kilmacud stretch their lead adding on another goal and a point. With about 12 minutes left to play Kilmacud had a lead of 3 goals. Back came Na Fianna and goaled. This was followed by a penalty which Na Fianna duly converted, reducing the margin to 1 goal. Kilmacud finished strongly with points from Emer and Susie. Na Fianna responded with a point and when the final whistle was blown Kilmacud came out on top with a 6-8 to 5-7 scoreline. As with last week’s game this was end-to-end from start to finish with excellent football played by both team throughout. With a few minutes left to play a draw was a potential result but Kilmacud dug deep and maintained their composure and picked off a few vital scores to stretch the lead. Well done to both teams for providing an excellent entertaining game of football.
