U8 Match Report | Majella's Little Stars

What chance has a team whose manager leaves the house without money for the 3 refs and without a camera? The sad thing is I wasn't even out on Saturday night (those days are long gone!). I never knew I kept a small fortune in 'change for parking' in the car - good job, but unfortunately the photos this week leave a lot to be desired as I resorted to the camera on the phone.

None of that mattered though, as our 24 girls got stuck into three matches against Ballinteer St Johns and Stars of Erin, hosted by Ballinteer. Girls, who just over 2 months ago in their first Go Game hardly touched the ball, were not only getting plenty of possession and bursting with the ball, but scoring too! It's very heartening to see such a transformation amongst our emerging players in such a short space of time and is testimony to the benefit of playing Go Game matches.

I witnessed at one stage in one match how our two defenders chit-chatted with the opposition forwards while the ball was in play down the other end, then break apart to defend when the ball came their direction and resume their chit-chat once the ball was cleared down the other end again. Goodness knows what they were discussing – somehow I don't think it was the game"¦maybe it was One Direction or something. We also had one instance (only one that I observed anyway) where the opposition scored a goal while our goalie was doing acrobatics off the side of the goalposts! Overall though, our girls were tremendously engaged and all eager to get possession of the ball whenever it came their way.

They are all looking forward to the Minis next week and I reckon we'll have some great u/8 matches as they battle it out against eachother!
