DUBLIN AIG FEILE DIVISION 1 FINAL REPORT

Sunday 26th April 2015

Kilmacud Crokes 0-8  Ballyboden St Enda's 0-3

Our U14s Division 1 team had mixed fortunes en route to the Feile final on Sunday 26th April in St Peregrines GAA Club.  Their group games were played in awful weather conditions in Ballyboden St Enda's on Saturday 25th.  They opened with a draw against Ballyboden but went on to succumb to a defeat by Foxrock Cabinteely. A win against Cuala put them back on track, only to draw against Lucan Sarsfields – a game they felt they should have won.  Only a win against Na Fianna would be good enough to guarantee them a place in the semi finals – it was never in doubt.

The semi final was against Foxrock Cabinteely – the only team to have beaten them earlier that day.  The supporters on the sideline might well have been justified in having their doubts about the probable outcome of the game, but the Kilmacud Crokes girls showed their true metal and played better than they had all day.  A super win!

And so to the final on Sunday.  Ballyboden St Enda's showed some real form coming into the weekend's competition, but the Kilmacud Crokes girls' confidence had grown with each game they'd played.  Meadbh O'Gorman helped settle nerves with an early point.  Kate O'Connor followed with a point of her own to make it 0-2 to 0-0 at half time; a score line which didn't reflect the excitement of the game.  Every ball was hard fought and Ballyboden were unlucky not to have scored at least once from a free.

The Crokes girls were well aware that Ballyboden were going to battle hard for every ball from the second half throw in.  Boden tried for a point from the restart but the Crokes backs were having none of it!  When Crokes regained possession from yet another great kickout from their goalkeeper Sally Neavyn, Grace Kos Made a wonderful run down the pitch to put it over the bar, followed by a point from Kate O' Connor who won the Ballyboden kickout.  Ballyboden then scored 2 from frees to put them within 2 points of Crokes. Then came a period of relentless pressure from Ballyboden during which the Crokes backs were tested like never before.  Block after block, not least from Sarah McAuley and save after save was made as Ballyboden tried to breach our defences but it was to be Crokes' day. Grace Kos and Kate O'Connor again combined to score Kilmacud's fifth point.  Cassie Sultan and Sinead O'Shea then worked a beautiful point and Aoife Taaffe then scored 2 wonderful points to make the final score 0-8 to 0-3.

Well done to all 23 girls involved over the weekend – truly a team effort.
