Under 10 Boys August Roll-Up
The 2013 U10 boys have had a busy August taking part in some invitational blitzs from clubs we've been building relationships with over previous seasons. We had invited Naas GAA to our Festival of Football last May and they now reciprocated; Maynooth GAA had been looking to hold some matches with us for the last couple of seasons but diaries had conspired against us; and finally, Ballyboden St Enda's had also invited us to their blitz in August, so we treated this as a perfect opportunity to warm up the boys after the summer break before restarting the season in September.
First up was Maynooth GAA, held at their own grounds on 19th August. We sent down 3 mixed teams each of which involved players across our full population. None of our teams had the opportunity of practicing beforehand, but we arrived down early to give them a chance to reconnect with each other and take some shot practice. We rotated 2 matches for each team and all KC teams acquitted themselves with distinction - active movement, passing, teamwork, smart defending and scoring. Well done to all players and coaches on another great day out.
The following weekend on 26th August, we split our player population between Ballyboden St Enda's and Naas GAA. At Ballyboden, we sent a team who played 3 matches. A lot of those players hadn't played with each other before but it was nonetheless impressive to see just how well they jelled together.
The Naas blitz involved many other teams in what is their annual football blitz. We sent 3 teams along to another brilliant outing. We competed against various clubs across Leinster including Maynooth, Navan O’Mahoneys, St. Loman’s Mullingar, St. Vincents and our hosts Naas. Our boys displayed great skills and played really well together throughout the day. Each of our teams had 3 initial group games and then a finale game and all the boys received a medal for their participation. The performance levels seemed to increase as the afternoon went on and we were extremely proud of all our players’ efforts.
All of these events were very well organised, promoting inclusivity and progressive football. We were treated with open arms and great hospitality - a huge thank you goes to those clubs for putting on a spread and for the warm welcome we received.
August served us well in preparation for the new season - we're now primed for our Go Games resuming early September.
