U16 B Away to St. Finians

Hard luck to our girls on the U16 B's today as they lost narrowly to St. Finians /St. Margaret's away in swords today. The girls fought really hard and were unlucky to lose out today. The girls played really well as a team, with some good sequences of play.

Our goalie, Maeve McDonald did very well to keep out the opposition and helped with some great defending by our backs. Our midfield Sabrina Farrelly and Aoife Brady did well to take the Finian's girls out of the game with some great tackling, and getting the ball up to our forwards who fought hard with some great scores. Niamh Henry scored our first goal, and after falling behind, Maria Erin O'Hurley brought us two points ahead with her goal, but unfortunately St. Finians scored a goal a short time later allowing them to steal the game away, and we ran out of time to get ahead again. St. Finians did have an extra player for a short time which gave them a bit of an advantage, in the form of a golden Labrador! The final score was 2-7 to 2-6, but our girls can can hold their heads high as they played really well.

U14 Div.1 v Foxrock Cabinteely

Sunday 2nd March, 3pm, match time and the earlier rain cleared, however it was not enough to lift the Crokes hearts after a defeat for Crokes, in the first U14 Div 1 match of the League, to Foxrock Cabinteely.   7-9 to 3-2 for Crokes was the final score.  The wind was against Crokes in the first half and in one case a fine kick out, up to the right hand edge of the pitch ended up with the ball blown back almost to the end line.  Some hard fought battles to retrieve the ball were subsequently lost.  The initial leakage of goals was stemmed and the Crokes girls steadied the play and clawed their way back up to the end of first half.  The second half did not go Crokes way with most bounces of the ball or 5050 situations going Foxrock's way, and did that wind die down..? or maybe that is just how it looked to this biased supporter!  It was a tough start to the season and expect Crokes fighting spirit to come through and improve for our next encounter. Crokes abú.
