Toomevara are the 38th All Ireland Camogie 7s Champions!
Toomevara, from Tipperary, won the Daintree Paper All Ireland Camogie 7s competition which took place yesterday, Saturday 10th September, as usual held in our grounds around Stillorgan.
The Shield competition was won by Ballycastle from Antrim and in the Plate competition, St. Josephs of Armagh were victorious.
48 teams from 18 counties all over Ireland took part in this year's competition which was sponsored by Daintree Paper. The day started very wet but before the first sliotar was thrown in at 10.30 am, the rain ceased and the sun was shining. It remained a beautiful day up to and including the Cup Final which commenced at 5.30 pm.
Three venues, Glenalbyn, Silverpark and St. Olafs, were used and there were three separate competitions within the tournament: the Pronsaias O'Cronain Cup, the Sean Flynn Shield and the Plate which was first inaugurated in 2010. Kilmacud Crokes entered teams in both the Shield and the Plate, and all our girls thoroughly enjoyed the day.
The Wall Ball competition, a big hit when it was first introduced last year, went ahead again this year, with the winner being Dania Donnelly from Baile na Scrinne. The long established Puc Fada competition was won this year by Aine Brislane from Toomevara.
The semi-final pairings for the Plate were Gort na Mona (Antrim) v St. Josephs (Armagh) and Na Bridoige (Mayo) v Kilcoole (Wicklow). The Plate final was contested by St Josephs and Na Bridoige, with St Josephs emerging the winners.
In the Shield competition, the semi-finals saw Kilmacud Crokes play Ballycastle (Antrim) and St. Johns (Antrim) play Eyrecourt (Galway). Ballycastle and St Johns made it through to the final, with Ballycastle being the overall victors.
The semi-final pairings for the Cup were Harps (Laois) v Toomevara (Tipperary) and Sixmilebridge (Clare) v Kileedy (Limerick), with Toomevara and Kileedy progressing to meet in the final.
In the Cup final, there were some fine individual performances from players such as Louise Young and Aoife Ryan of Toomevara and Michelle Casey and Karan Mullane of Kileedy. Toomevara were the team to take home the cup after a hotly contested match which they won on a 4-11 to 2-02 scoreline.
Louise Young of Toomevara was later named Player of the Tournament.
Presentations were made immediately after the finals with speeches from Aidan Roantree, Camogie Chairman, Larry Ryan, Patron of Kilmacud Crokes GAA and Camogie Club, Eamonn Brown, Vice President of the Camogie Association and Paul Barnes from Daintree Paper.
The Camogie Committee would like to thank all our volunteers who worked hard to make the day such a great success. We would also like to thank all the referees who attended and gave freely of their time, the Ladies Football, Hurling and Football Sections of Kilmacud Crokes. Without all their help, the day would not have been possible.
Another successful 7s competition - done and dusted!
