Coláiste Eoin v St Kieran's, Leinster Colleges Senior Semi Final
It was a case of what might have been in Dr. Cullen Park on Sunday 19 February 2012, as Coláiste Eoin took on the might of Kilkenny, in the form of 2011 All Ireland Champions St Kieran's, in an exciting Leinster Hurling Senior Colleges semi final.
Coláiste Eoin took early control, scoring a goal and a point without answer, before St Kieran's registered their first point. The Stillorgan lads dominated more or less to the short whistle. However, St Kieran's chipped away with a series of points, mainly from frees, to lead by two points at the turnaround; 0-07 to 1-02.
The Dublin Team started well in the second half, scoring three points before St Kieran's scored again. It was a finely balanced and intensely fought match for much of this half. However Kieran's began to take control as the game reached its final moments. While Colaiste Eoin found it difficult to convert chances to scores, Kierans continued to pop over a series of points and finished (a flattering) four points ahead.
Despite the disappointment Coláiste Eoin did themselves proud and it is a measure of their skill, talent and high motivation that they were hugely diisappointed not to have won the match to reach the Final.
The Management Team of Aodhán de Paor, Shane O Ruairc and Feargal Mairtín deserve great credit for their dedicaton, commitment and enthusiasm, which in no small measure contributed to a series of fine team displays.
