League Victory for Senior 3 Camogie girls

Body

The Senior 3 Camogie girls won the league in impressive style last night,  Thursday 19th May,  with a comprehensive win over Ballyboden. It was with caution that Kilmacud Crokes approached this match as this was the same opposition who had beaten us in the Championship final last October.  It was a balmy enough evening in Silverpark for this league decider and the game started well with an early point for Kilmacud Crokes from Sorcha Meagher.  By the end of the first quarter Crokes were up by 1 goal and 3 points to nil with the goal coming from Julia Buckley.   However, Ballyboden turned up their volume then and really began to compete and for the next 15 minutes or so, they were dominant taking their points whenever the opportunity arose.  In contrast, during this period, Kilmacud seemed to have difficulty converting their possession into scores and scored just two more points before the break.  The half time score was 1-5 to Kilmacud Crokes and 5 points to Ballyboden.

Just as they had done in the first half,  our girls started the second half very well and with the wind at their backs they scored an early goal and a couple of points to give them some comfort.  Ballyboden didn’t roll over and had plenty of possession but while they scored 3 points in the second half, they all came from frees.  The Kilmacud defence were outstanding as they have been all through the league and they kept the attacks from Ballyboden to a minimum. Our Kilmacud Crokes girls played with confidence and got stronger as the game went on. Scores came from Anneka Kilroy, Maedhbh Gallagher, Julia Buckley, Charlotte O’Farrell and Sorcha Meagher.    The final score at the full time whistle was 3-11 to 0-8.

The league began in March and the girls have not put a foot wrong from beginning to end.  The team clocked up 14 points from 7 games with 139 points for them and just 34 against.  The points difference was an impressive 105.

The Management team of Mick Noctor, Mark Cregg, Oisin O’Carroll and Kevin Murphy will look now to build on that for the upcoming Championship.
