Kilmacud's U21B's got the competitive year off to the perfect start by defeating Fingal Ravens in the championship final in Silverpark on Sat 24th Jan. The game was switched to Silverpark as Balgriffin the original venue was closed and Fingal Ravens sportingly agreed to travel to Leopardstown. The match was played in near perfect weather conditions and both teams contributed to great display of fast, open wholehearted football.

Kilmacud had the upper hand in midfield for the entire first half and with the backs keeping a tight rein on their opponents the forwards had a plentiful supply of ball. However the glaring sun made shooting difficult and many scoring chances were squandered. The half time lead of three points did not reflect the dominance enjoyed by our team.

The second half started in the same fashion but now the forwards took their scores and after fifteen minutes had built up an eight point lead. Fingal then had a man sent off and as often happens they then played their best football and gradually pegged back the lead. Going into injury time the difference was still five points and although Fingal laid siege on our goal they could not breach our defence and the day was won by three points.

Great credit is due to the entire panel for their hard work and great attitude in training and also to Mick Leahy for his dedication to his lads. Aided by Gerry Greene and Mick Carolan the lads responded to his enthusiasm and encouragement with determination to win the championship and return to Glenalbyn with the cup.
