VON PARR FAMILY TAKES TO CROKE PARK STAGELong after their last appearances in Croke Park, former Kilmacud Crokes players Jerry Parr and Matt Cahill return to play there again on Thursday next, 19th of December, with the Newtownpark Gospel choir. http://clionasfoundation.com/stars-choirs-carols-guinness-world-recod-attempt-at-croke-park
Thirty years ago club teams in Dublin occasionally got the opportunity to play on the hallowed ground. For example in 1982, Crokes footballers played in the UCD Seven-A-Side Championship final in Croke Park. The 1985 Senior Hurling Championship final won by Crokes was played at headquarters. In June 1979, we played in the Dublin Senior Championship semi-final there. This game stands as a landmark coming as it did in our first ever senior football championship. Alas, the outcome was an unlucky and painful one point loss.
Thankfully on Thursday next everybody hopefully will be a winner as we partake in an effort to break a world record and become part of an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most people singing christmas carols in one place - all in aid of a worthy cause. Also bolstering the Newtownpark Gospel Choir's effort will be Mary Parr, Olympian at LA in 1984 who subsequently looked after physical training for the Senior Football team for a spell in the mid-eighties, Clare Parr, member of IL Coro Italiano and Tony Parr harmonica player non pareil. Sadly on this occasion there will be no "Edelweiss" .... it's carols only. It should be fun.
Joy to the world!
