Presentation of Malin to Mizen Cycle Charity Cheques - October 23rd

On Thursday October 23rd a group of very proud cyclists presented the cheques to the beneficiaries of their fundraising efforts - Breast Cancer Ireland (BCI) and Kilmacud Glenalbyn Sports Club Ltd. These funds had been raised through the Malin to Mizen cycle in June 2014.

On May 28th this year, the group of 33 cyclists embarked on the Malin to Mizen Club Cycle to raise funds for Breast Cancer Ireland (BCI) and Kilmacud Glenalbyn Sports Club Ltd – in order for the House Committee to provide for the essential maintenance and upgrade of facilities in the House.

The cyclists were – Kevin Bannon, Dave Byrne, Hugh Campbell, Kevin Coakley, Antony Collins, Ronan Conway, Mark Cregg, Michael Culligan, Pat Cunningham, Fionan Daly, Donie Dowling, Mick Durcan, John Fenton, Kevin Foley, Paul Gallagher, Kieran Gowing, Gerry Greene, Pat Halpin, Niall Hayes, Sean Hogan, Robbie Kelleher, Jerome Kilkenny, Conor Lamb, Tommy Mannion, Michael McNicholas, Kevin Mulligan Mícheál Mullin, Ronnie Murray, Denis Neavyn, Jerome O'Drisceoil, Philip O'Dwyer, Don O'Shea, Frank Rutledge, Richard Stakelum

Support from club members with the logistics was essential to the smooth running of the event – this was ably done by Mick Carolan, Vinnie Patterson, Gerry Park and Liam O'Flaherty.

The event required cycling as follows :

28th May: Malin Head to Letterkenny 81km
29th May: Letterkenny to Ballyhaunis 190km
30th May: Ballyhaunis to Lahinch 122km
31st May: Lahinch to Kenmare 160km
1st June: Kenmare to Mizen 87km

The event hit the targeted €70,000 and the final total was c. €73,000 with BCI and Kilmacud Crokes benefiting by c.€32,000 each after costs.

We wish to thank all the sponsors who contributed and in particular the contribution of the 2 main sponsors of Nissan and Sattal. All the individual sponsorship raised by the cyclists and other key club members including the House Committee has borne fruit with a great result. This reflected a lot of hard work by all the cyclists to meet individual targets.

The camraderie among the cyclists and support crew was magnificent and we would hope that more members will participate in future events and enjoy the cycling as a social and fitness outlet with other club members. It contributes to the overall club well being and raises much necessary funds for the House maintenance while also contributing to a worthy charity in BCI. Please feel free to contact any of the current cycling group for assistance in "getting going in the saddle".
