Crokes Men Power Dublin to 1937 Junior All-Ireland Glory

Following their victories in the 1935 and 1936 Dublin Junior Hurling Finals Crokes were the powerhouse behind Dublin’s successful 1937 Junior All-Ireland Hurling campaign.

In the Junior Leinster Final 11-8 to 5-4 win over Offaly on 25th July 1937

Jimmy Little (goalkeeper), Paddy Tolan, Jack Byrne, John Maher and Peadar McMahon all played. Tommy Jenkinson, was a substitute, having played at midfield in the first round victory over Kilkenny.

The 3rd of October 1937 was a very proud day for the club when McMahon as captain received the All-Ireland trophy at Croke Park after victory over London 7-8 to 3-6. Galway had earlier been beaten 6-6 to 3-3 in the Home Final. Tolan, Byrne and Maher also played in the All-Ireland Final with Little a substitute.

Both McMahon and Byrne went on to represent Dublin at senior level and a number of their 1937 colleagues helped Dublin to the senior All-Ireland title in 1938.
