Junior A's beat Ballinteer in Div 5
Junior A's win tough encounter
Kilmacud Crokes held out to win a tough encounter against a very good Ballinteer side in Silverpark on Sunday, 6 April 2014. Crokes were sluggish from the off and grateful for some excellent defensive work by the full back line to keep the lively Ballinteer side at bay. Ciaran McIntyre then got Crokes on the scoreboard with an excellent point and followed shortly with a well taken goal. After ten minutes, Crokes were somewhat fortunate to lead by 1-02 to 0-02.
Some soft frees were conceded to Ballinteer, which ensured the teams were level at 1-03 to 0-06 after 20 minutes. A cracking point from long range by Brian Sheehan lifted Crokes and a well taken goal by Enda Mahon seemed to give Crokes the initiative, as the teams broke for half time with Crokes leading by 2-05 to 0-08.
With a slight wind in their backs Crokes opened the 2nd half brightly with good points from play from Alex Considine and Conor O’Dwyer, after a great run from wing back. After ten minutes Crokes led by 2-10 to 0-10. Thereafter Ballinteer assumed control and reeled off a number of points, followed by a goal, to leave the minimum between the teams with 2 minutes left on the clock.. 2-11 to 1-13. In the final play a good passing movement resulted in a penalty for Crokes which Conor Caulfield tapped over to leave a 2 point gap at the final whistle.
