This was a very keenly contested Div 5 league game on a balmy September morning, reflecting the promotion ambitions of both sides. Both teams were short a number of regulars but those present fought and scrapped for every possesion. Scores were at a premium, with the home side leading on a halftime score of 0-8 to 1-03.
Crokes will have been disappointed with both the quantity and nature of wides accumulated in the opening period. Conor Caulfield unfortunately suffered a dislocated shoulder during the first half and we wish him a full recovery.
The second half continued along a similar vein, with scores even harder to come by! The referee allowed the game flow for both sides resulting in lots of physical but fair engagements all over the pitch. However the home side’s shooting did not improve despite lots of possession. Both teams never lacked for effort but would have been disappointed with the scoring.
The final outcome of a draw leaves Crokes, after 7 wins, 1 draw & 1 loss, with every opportunity for promotion with two further league games to play.
The full back line of Ronan Horgan, Paul Collins & the returning Conor O’Dwyer acquitted themselves well throughout. The team showed excellent character all round and particular mention on the day for the home side goes to James “Chief” O’Keeffe and Tony Walsh for their performances.
