Report Week Ending 20th June 2010

Body

A super effort from the under 14A’s came up just short after a long day’s hurling on Saturday evening 19th June 2010 in the national Feile na nGael semi final against Na Piarsaigh from Cork.

Crokes came through their group with full points from wins over host club St Josephs Doora Barefield (Friday), Wolfe Tones Shannon (Sat 10 am) and Kilcormac Killoughey, the Offaly champions (Sat 12.15pm).  This put them through as one of the two quarter finalists against O’Loughlin Gaels, the Kilkenny champions, at 4pm on a beautiful sunny afternoon.  The other three group winners went straight to the semi finals.

Played in Clarecastle at 4pm, Crokes put in a great first half and led 3-2 to 1-2.  Things were more difficult against the second half wind but a whole hearted, gutsy performance guided the young Dubs to the penultimate stage on a 3-4 to 2-3 scoreline.  The semi final was played in the same venue with a 7.15pm throw in.  Despite giving their all the Crokes boys had to play second fiddle as the day’s exertions caught up with them and went down 0-14 to 2-1.

This was a wonderful weekend where the boys showed all that is most admirable about them in their conduct both on and off the field.  It was also a fantastic tribute to their management team of Mick Crowe, Frances Herlihy, Kevin Coakley, Pat Halpin and Michael Veale and the many others who played a key role.  All concerned and the large travelling support can return home justifiably proud of the team’s marvellous achievement.    A fuller report will be posted later.  For more see HERE

Accompanying the A’s over the weekend was the under 14B panel who recorded good challenge wins over Sarsfields of Galway at Bullaun on Friday evening and Sixmilebridge B of Clare on Sunday morning.

On the domestic front, on Monday evening, 15th June 2010, the seniors earned two more AHL1 points following a last gasp win over Craobh Chiaran in Silverpark.  At half time Crokes were 2-9 to -16 in arrears and still trailed by five points with ten minutes to go.  Twice they managed to bring it back to one before Chairans pulled away to lead by three again with time nearly up.  A late goal from Kevin O’Loughlin and a wonder point from a distance free by goalkeeper MacDara O’hOgain pulled the fat out of the fire.  For report see HERE

On Sunday 20th June 2010 the seniors entertained Kilcorma Killoughey in a challenge in Silverpark where they went down 2-16 to 0-14.  The same moring the under 12’s hosted Dicksboro in Glenalbyn.  Both sets of visitors were on the way to Croke Park for the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship semi finals where Dublin were outclassed by Kilkenny (for report see HERE) and Offaly and Galway drew.

Back to Monday evening (15th June 2010).  The under 11’s played a Division 1 (one team) match in Dolphin Park against Kevins going down 4-4 to 4-0.  All the Crokes scores came from Tom Kehoe.  Dylan Crossan and Stephen Tuite were also prominent.

Golf Classic

Running Kilmacud Crokes Hurling is a costly business.  Qualifying for a prestigious event such as the Féile, while hugely welcomed, adds extra cost to the already sizable figure it takes to run fourteen teams.  So far this year all our teams are going well with the senior and intermediate adult teams at or near the top of their leagues and the same holding true for most of the younger teams.

To help defray expenses we are holding our annual golf fundraiser in Bray Golf Club on Friday June 25th. Please see the attached letter outlining the details of the event which is also a great social day. We would be very grateful if you could consider supporting the event this year in any way possible e.g.

*          team entry

*          individual entry (we can match you to a team),

*          tee sponsorship

*          green sponsorships or

*          prize donations,

If think you can sell the event to a friend or family member please tailor the letter accordingly and send it on.

Please do what you can to support. Every little helps.  As usual the mid-afternoon slots go quickest so please book early. A free buggy is available for use on the day for the first 16 teams pledged.
