Report Week Ending 25th July 2010
Friday, 23rd July 2010, saw the intermediates make it three wins out of three in this year’s championship when accounting for St Sylvesters by 1-18 to 1-8 in Silverpark. On a nice evening for hurling Crokes had three points on the scoreboard before five minutes were out. On the quarter mark it was 0-6 to 0-1. At twice that the Kilmacud men were 0-9 to 0-4 to the good. The Malahide outfit got the first score of the second half but this only served to spur the local team to greater efforts. A steady stream of points put them in front 0-16 to 0-7 before a gem of a goal from Jonathon Hayes dispelled any hopes lingering in the opposition camp with six minutes to go. For pictures see HERE. The senior championship game scheduled for the same evening was postponed due to an O’Tooles bereavement.
The intermediates promotion prospects were dented on Monday19th July 2010 as a result of a 2-14 to 2-8 AHL3 loss against Whitehall Colmcilles on a warm, close and breezy evening in Cloughran. The Crokes cause was not helped by registering eight wides in the first twenty minutes and was further damaged when a high ball was not dealt with resulting in a goal for the home team. This put Whitehall 1-5 to 0-2 ahead. In the remaining ten minutes of the half the Kilmacud men produced their best hurling and went in 1-7 to 1-5 in arrears - the goal finished to the net after a strong run by Alex Pilkington. With the aid of the wind Colmcilles gradually put distance between the sides, even if they were similarly culpable with “ar foireals”. With eight minutes left they led 2-13 to 1-7. A late penalty goal from Jonathon Hayes and point from a 65 by Declan Browne was not enough to affect the result.
