Report Week Ending 27th March 2010
Sunday 27th March 2011
With an hour’s less sleep both minor sides headed north. The A’s Division 1 tie against St Vincents took them to Pairc Naomh Uinsinn. Skerries beckoned for the B’s in their Division 3 game.
The A’s won, 3-9 to 0-11, but not without a struggle. Vins scored the opening two points and it took a long range goal from Matthew Geraghty to put the visitors ahead, 1-1 to 0-3, after eighteen minutes. Come the short whistle it was 2-5 to 0-7 by which time the Kilmacud side were on top in the central area and doing most of the attacking. While Crokes opened the half as they closed the previous, a gradual lessening of the grip in this space allowed Vincents leeway and it was not until a well taken Neil Gorey goal with seven minutes remaining that the issue was put beyond doubt. On a day when all bar two of the home team’s scores came from placed balls Paddy Tighe, his full back trio of Sean Boyd, Robert Murphy and John Huban, Emmet Doherty , Jamie Clinton and Fionan Motherway shone for the Stillorgan outfit.
Team:
P Tighe, S Boyd, R Murphy, J Huban, C Gormley, E Doherty, C Devins, M Geraghty (1-0), O O'Rorke (0-1), J Clinton (0-1), B Horan, C Conway, (0-1) F Motherway (1-1), J Cassidy, A Pilkington (0-5, f-2). Subs; N Gorey (1-0) for F Motherway, C O’Neill for O O’Rorke, C O’Dwyer for S Boyd.

The Minor B’s gave an outstanding display in their latest foray to the edges of the county. As the game moved towards its finale it appeared as if Crokes had the points in the bag. However, twice in the last five minutes Skerries breached the southsiders’ defence with well taken goals. At the end of a hard fought game the scoreboard read Skerries Harps 2-12 Kilmacud Crokes 3-10. For B report see HERE
The seniors lost a useful practice match against the Dublin under 21’s at Craobh Chiaran’s Clonshaugh grounds by four points.

Silverpark was the scene for the under 15A’s First Division clash with Cuala. At the end of the first half the Dalkey boys’ dominance was reflected in a 2-5 to 0-2 entry in the referee’s notebook. Crokes improved in the next slice but never looked like winning and succumbed 4-9 to 4-5. Mark McCallion was the pick of the bunch with Tadgh Murphy and Shane Veale not far behind. Sean Crowe and Peter Herlihy did well in the second half. For pictures see HERE or click on the camera below!

A goal each from Colin Smyth and Niall Sweeny, plus points from Kevin Culligan, Paul Comerford, Niall Sweeny, Ronan Kennedy and Stephen O'Hurley helped the under 15B’s to a 2-5 to 1-2 midway lead against Erins Isle in the Third Division at Finglas. Isles gained the ascendancy on the resumption narrowing the gap to two points forty two minutes into the game. A well taken Ronan Kennedy goal was almost immediately cancelled out keeping the game in the fire. In the forty sixth minute Paul Comerford drove a 20 metre free to the net to make it 4-5 to 3-3. Thanks to a strong all round team performance Crokes ran out 6-6 to 5-3 victors.

The going was tougher at the same venue for the under 13A’s against Na Fianna A in League 1. Crokes opened brightly and might have been more than the game’s solitary score to the good after ten minutes except for the excellence of the Mobhi Road’s keeper. Two goals put daylight between the sides as the visitors went into a 2-5 to 0-3 leath am lead. They also had the better of the second half scoring stakes concluding 3-9 to 0-3 to the good. All the Crokes boys tried hard especially Jack Gallagher, Jack Stacey, Ben Rafter, Cian Ryan, Sean Dunbar, who switched to midfield in the second half, and Jim Gibbons

Mid week
It was a busy week at this age level. Mid week (Wednesday) the under 14B’s put in a very good performance against Naomh Mearnog under lights at Innisfails’ Balgriffin grounds in League Division 2. The first half in particular was evenly contested before the Portmarnock boys ended 3-13 to 1-6 victors. For report see HERE
Two days later the A’s tasted Division 1 fare against Ballyboden at Cherryfield, this time with a “beat the traffic” 5.15pm start. Four unanswered points came in the first sixth. Boden equalised with a goal (0-5 to 1-2) on the quarter mark. The respite was short lived as Conor O’Dwyer responded in kind within thirty seconds. Six overs without reply presaged half time (1-9 to 1-3). For the third quarter scores were slower to come as the pace of the game dropped and Crokes eschewed their earlier directness. A Conn O’Cleirigh goal made it 2-11 to 1-3. Shortly after, Boden staged a mini rally that narrowed the margin to six before a late flurry saw the Stillorgan boys comfortably home by 4-15 to 2-5. Among the stars were Mark O’Rourke, Adam Tuck, Stevie O’Dwyer, Fiachra Tucker and Martin Connor.
Team:
