Championship Triumph for Seniors

On Friday 14th evening the Crokes senior hurlers made their much delayed championship debut against the South Dublin Regional (2) team under lights at O’Toole’s grounds in Blunden Drive.

The Regional side got off to a good start with a point inside thirty seconds.  Sixty seconds later a forty metre free from Fergal Armstrong found its way to the net.  Almost immediately Paul Graham crashed home a twenty metre free and when good interplay involving Niall Murphy, Donal McGovern and Ross O’Carroll saw McGovern put over in the seventh minute the contest was as good as over.

Crokes led 3-8 to 0-4 at the break and tacked on a further eleven points to the representative side’s 1-4 in the second half.  On a night that produced no real test it was hard to assess the Crokes performance but the certainty is tougher encounters lie ahead starting with Cuala on 29/30th September.  For report see HERE

Under 14's beat St Brigids

Saturday was a very busy juvenile day.  On the domestic front the under 14’s travelled to Russell Park to play St Brigids in the semi final of the championship.  With Crokes slightly ahead a major turning point occurred in the fifteenth minute with the sending off of one of Brigid’s pivotal players.  Crokes were 1-6 to 0-2 ahead at the interval.  During the second half Crokes added 2-5 while the home team failed to score.  Congratulations to all involved in reaching the final and they, better than most, will be aware an upped game will be needed the next day out.

Crokes on the Road!

Two teams travelled out of Dublin to take part in tournaments and performed creditably.  The under 16’s went all the way to the final in Clarecastle, Co Clare, before going down 0-6 to 0-3. Report to follow, so check back later!  In Kilkenny, in the O’Loughlin Gaels tournament, the under 10’s lost their opening game to a very strong Dicksboro side and then lost a thriller, by a point, to Naomh Eanna from Gorey.  For report see HERE

Our thanks to the mentors, parents and players who made the trips.  The fact we are invited to such tournaments is a further mark of the progress Crokes hurling has made.

Action Closer to Home!

Tuesday evening saw the under 16B’s host St Judes in Silverpark in a league game.  Having played with the wind Crokes were a little unfortunate to go in 2-2 to 1-3 down at half time. Despite fighting gallantly the Judes boys had too much in the tank in the second half and ran out 5-4 to 1-4 winners,  Crokes stars included Sean Garvey, Joe Parsons, Barry Callinan, Fiachra Lynn, Thomas Clarke, Mark Lynskey and Keith Hogarty

On Thursday Crokes hosted Whitehall Colmcilles in the under 13 Shield in Deerpark.  The Kilmacud boys were slow to start but the tonic of three first half goals settled them.  Ahead 3-8 to 1-2 at the break the home team ran out 5-15 to 2-3 winners.  Stars on the night included Mark Collins, Ross McGowan, James Murphy, Donal Keane, Cian Gormley

Squad:

Cian MacGabhann, Barry Horan, Mark Collins, Conor Sweeny, Daibhid Corish, Andrew Colclough, Ross McGowan, Oisin O’Rorke, Matthew Geraghty, Philip O’Shea, Conor Devins, Kevin James McGowan, Robert Murphy, Conor O’Byrne, Neil Gorey, Donal Keane, Matthew McNicholas, Tomas Barry, Eoin Ryall, Conor J O’Dwyer, James Murphy, Michael Herlihy Cian Gormley, Cormac Spain

Hurling Academy

Saturday nursery activity at 11.00am has now resumed for children born 1999 or later.  For next Saturday the venue is Oatlands College and will then revert to Glenalbyn.  Contact Liam Coughlan 086-6063232 and lccoughlan@eircom.net.  Active parental input is essential for the success of the nursery.  No hurling experience necessary
